Swiss Event #ceremony of the new 777

Was a really nice event. Thanks to LX for the invitation.

Well, to be brutally honest......

The plane seems like a beautiful jewel...but with flaws. Certainly the F cabin looks great. However, from what I see, the business cabin is a case of one step forward, two steps backwards. The step forward is the nice new IFE screen as the current screen is pitiful. However, here are the steps backward: many more seats without direct aisle access and without someone stepping over you. Second, even the middle row, where all seats have direct aisle access, there is loss of credenza space on half the seats. Frankly from what I see, I think I like the old A340 business cabin better, the old IFE screen nothwithstanding.

Great pictures OP ^ .

I love the many words that can be said about the new coach: "New Business: much better tables", "Eco:...".

Very similar to the LX introduction SPAM of today where they praise the premium screens and legroom and personal space and privacy ... and then coach "snacks" ... you get snacks. No space or things of that sort.

Well it will be a long time before I will ride on this bird. By that time the flaws in Biz will probably be fixed and a PE will have been installed.

I just took a short look at Eco - not my cup of tea anyway.

A fellow HON said today that the eco seat feels more than OK and that it comes pretty close to the LH PE seat.
His words; I do not know LH PE...

Was also there. My 2 cents to it:

First: Is a fine tune of the A330 product. Not bad I would say, but compared to the A330 just a littke difference. Nevertheless I like the A330 seat and therfore expect to be satisfied with the B777 one as well. The difference to the A340 F seat is of course huge.

Business: Finetuning of the current A330/340 product. More stowage space for small items on many seats. "Thrones" seem to be quite nice. However the worst seats in the whole configuration (window double seats) have not even improved a little bit. Still no privacy, no stowage space, climbing over other passenger. Horrible!

Eco: Well, I couldn't care less, but honestly if anybody has to fly from ZRH to HKG in that seat I wish he has booked a good massage in HKG on arrival. And I hope the ride was REALLY cheap, which is usually not the case with LX as per my knowledge.

All over all: My expectation and the one of a few other fellows I talked to have been met. But the new cabins are certainly not "best in class" compared to 5* airlines.

Just a matter of taste. I much prefer LX C to SQ C for example.
Was recently on SQ C on A380 again: I don't really like that ultra-wide seat. Space for feet when sleeping not really big. Don't like to sleep in obliqely position.
And catering was mediocre, far away from all the cheers you can read around.

Me too, Service from the heart and a proper soft blanket, not the short SQ blankets. Regarding the window double seats they are romantic for couples ;). 4J and K will be THE seats with a large cubbyhole. The few "thrones" will hopefully be blocked for HON/SEN.

Thanks for the great pix, sven-henning and all for the firsthand reports!

Re the "new" C:
curious, why LX decided against an all-aisle access layout?
Wondering, how the new seat compares to the A340 re legspace for sleeping.
As a side sleeper I find the leg area rather confining.

Pretty sure the 2-2-1 alternating layout is the same in the new and old cabins. I don't see how anyone could think this cabin isn't a huge improvement over the mediocre old in J or F.

Indeed. On the airbus there are 15 single seats including 5 thrones out of 47 seats in Business. On the 77W there are only 12 single seats (all thrones) out of 62 in Business.

Simply because they would not be able to squeeze in so many seats. :p

Judging by the above, I will much prefer the refurbished Business class on the A340s, whereas I found "old" First on those planes to really be lacking. Here, I agree with the comments above Business but I think the "new" First will be excellent.

About the comments and disdain about traveling in Economy, the vast majority of people travel in Eco including myself much of the time. It is not as bad as all that and when you consider the price of many tickets these days (lots of special offers), which can be absurdly cheap given the distance covered, it can be jolly good. It's all a question of managing expectation as well as psychological preparation (which should be part of any long trip). I feel that I appreciate the premium cabins more readily because I am not always traveling in them, so I can really enjoy when I am there.

I look forward to trying the new 777. In any class.

A photo of HB-JNA with the 'foil' applied on airliners.net. SWISS has not published a photo with the foil yet. :p

Relative to coach, the improvement is massive  ....

I was wondering:
made a booking today for a flight next Monday 08.February from ZRH - BCN on
LX 1956, it is on this 777-300ER.
Is this correct?
