Newbie Question: cash upgrades

I am booked in coach for a flight from JFK to Zurich in January. I would like to try to pay cash to upgrade to business class. I understand you can sometimes do this at check in . My question is...can you pay for an upgrade (if available) when you check in online 24 hours before your flight? Can you do this at the check-in machine at the airport? Or only at at ticket counter? Again, all based on availability I understand. Thanks!

Yeah, thanks. I saw that thread but it was not clear whether you can purchase an available upgrade if you check in online?

i.e. if I check in online 23 hours before the flight am I more likely to be able to purchase an upgrade than if I wait until I get to the airport a few hours before my flight. It is not clear to me if you can even purchase a space-available upgrade online.

No, you cannot purchase a cash upgrade when you check in online. LX website doe not include this feature.

Although there is a rumour that this functionality will be available shortly.
