Six hours from ZRH and they only got as far as Moscow?

They should have dumped these two there. I'm sure a couple of nights in a Russian police cell would have educated them about acceptable behaviour on board of an aircraft ...

It took in total 6 hours until the plane returned to ZRH.

Fighting was in Y cabin between two Chinese pax ( 29 and 57 years old). Subsequently other Chinese pax joined into the fight, which started as a heavy disagreement between a Chinese couple.

I wonder if any of the legal professionals on here would care to share their opinion on the chances of success if somebody decided to sue these two idiots for damages - see ZUG2007's inconvenience above for example.

Also, would SWISS try to reclaim costs from them?

Some more details (in German):
http://www.20min.ch/schweiz/news/sto...nden--29157726

In short:
- The flight was above the Russian city Kasan
- ZRH was chosen because of operational reasons (easier to rebook pax)
- Flying to PEK was not an option as there are even less options to land (and handle pax) in Sibiria (in case the fight would have escalated again)

I have a hard time understanding why they didn't land in Moscow?

Or did the crew say they would go over their hours and that option would have resulted in having to put everyone up in hotels in Moscow until another crew were flown in?

Landing in Moscow/Russia, could have been a major headache for pax without a Visa as well, besides operational reasons stated above.

There is some more news (in German) incl. a short video (after the fight):
http://www.blick.ch/news/schweiz/pas...id2021229.html

Apparently a 57 year old Chinese attacked a 29 year old Chinese because his seat was reclined during meal service and disturbed the 57 year old one. The fight ended on the floor. Later the 57 year old also attacked the MdC who tried to end the fight. Finally, with the help of a passenger, the 57 year old got cuffed with some cable straps and "banned" to the last row.

With the main aggressor being "cuffed" I don't understand why they did not continue to PEK (well he was continuing shouting for an hour, but still)...

Swiss sky scuffle caused by seat-back altercation

From http://sg.news.yahoo.com/swiss-sky-s...111336520.html

A mid-air brawl between two passengers on a flight from Zurich to Beijing was caused by an altercation over the position of a passenger's seat back, a Swiss-German tabloid reported Tuesday.
A flier aboard Sunday's Swiss airline flight -- a 57-year-old Chinese man who was reportedly tipsy -- felt disturbed during his meal when the passenger in front of him reclined his chair, the newspaper Blick reported after speaking to a tourist guide who was on the flight.
Blick has reported that the chair-reclining man is also a Chinese citizen, aged 27.
"The older of the two felt disturbed during his dinner. When the younger did not respond to his protests, he hit him on the head with the flat of his hand. It was a real slap," said the guide, Valerie Sprenger.
A fight then broke out between the two men, who rolled in the plane's aisle.
A crew member and a well-muscled passenger restrained the aggressor, bound his hands and placed him at the back of the plane, where he shouted for an hour, the newspaper said.
The plane was just east of Moscow when the pilot decided to turn it around and land at Zurich, where police took the men into custody.
A local magistrate said the aggressor was released Tuesday after being fined an undisclosed amount.
Authorities seized cash from the two men to cover legal costs and the airline could still seek reimbursement to cover the extra jet fuel and costs of accommodating other passengers in Zurich for a night.
The flight was carrying 200 passengers.
