Unlike raclette which requires a grill (or, even better, an open fire), fondue does not require any particular type of heat source. Accordingly, there is no reason for a fondue to be bad on a plane; only the cheese mixture/spicing/herbs are relevant. The only issue that I see is that, without constant heating, the fondue will become cold and chewy after 2-3 minutes. Accordingly, once the fondue leaves the galley, it has a very short life. Hence the serving must be small and the container holding the fondue on the tray delivered to the passenger should be warmed up.

I never tried it on a plane, but would be interested to taste it too.

The damned noise of LX's 773s should take care of the odours.

It comes with all the bells and whistles, including a nice smell, and often but not always gets served during the colder months.

Will make sure I have one at the lounge and another one, if they let me, on board with some LPGS.

As you said, it tastes exactly like Gerber ready-to-eat cheese fondue on the ground, because that is what they serve.

Not the best cheese fondue in the world, but the best (and only) cheese fondue I ever had on a plane.

Too bad, hope you complained.

They need to know that there is demand for it.

Cheese fondue as amuse? Not sure I would like that either.

Was thinking about it as a snack later in the flight.

Interesting, as LX did offer raclette on the plane (1 or 2 years ago).

Does anyone know who in Switzerland sells the South African Red - Hartenberg "the Mckenzie" - that is currently served in F? Apparently it is not from Kapweine.ch, my first suspect and I only find shops in EU which is a pain with customs....

Sorry, cannot answer your question.

Was it good?

Have a number of LX flights coming up and found it odd that two of the three reds are Bordeaux style, as they are not my favorite.

Brilliant - many thanks! Still wondering where they have it from - cannot imagine that they import directly. The FA didn't know either and there was no sourcing comment in the crew booklet.....

I loved it and after lots of not so great SA wine in Tanzania it restored my appreciation for SA winemaking...but tastes differ ;-) - just give it a try. LX FA's will be happy to provide you with a full tasting of what is loaded, incl. the C selection.
