Wanted: strikethrough vB code

While right now vB code supports most HTML font markup, one semi-glaring omission is strikethrough, e.g. what would be <strike>(stuff here)</strike> in HTML. Many vBulletin (and other software) boards implement this with [s], similar to [b] for bold, [i] for italics, etc. That is not enabled here.

I'd really love to see [s] added as a strikethrough tag. It should be nearly trivial to add it, given vB's extensibility.

Thanks!

I'll second this. It's commonly used in several blogs that I have (occasionally) followed, and I like the sort of tongue-in-cheek tone its use allows. I've had several occasions recently where I really wished that it were allowed.

I've heard that the <s> and <strike> tags are being depreciated in newer versions of the HTML standard, but I think the <del> tag does something similar. It might also be able to be done in a supported way in a CSS style definition. Assuming it's technically feasible, I vote it be included!

It's not only technically feasible, it's very easy. See this thread on the vBulletin forum. If you want to remain W3C-compliant, there is a CSS method of doing it, outlined in that thread.

I would vote for making the tags either just [s] or [s] and [strike], rather than just [strike] ... it would be more consistent with the [b], [i], and [u] tags.

So, uh... any thoughts from Randy and/or the IB folk who would be the ones to actually implement this very easy suggestion? :)

Although not Randy or IB, I do know that changes to the current board set-up (such as the suggestion to implement photos in some forums for a trial) are on hold until some bigger changes to the board are made. So it's possible that this kind of request would also not be considered until after that point.

This feature has not been added, using [strike].

Enjoy :)

Thanks. If only solving search was this simple quick.

Thanks Mikel! This feature will, I'm sure, add some humor irony to many posts. :)

Any particular reason you chose [strike] rather than [s] ? Just curious being a PITA. ;)

I had no good reason my reasons to choose one over the other.

This is totally useless will be fun in OMNI. :D

It turns out that [strike] doesn't display properly in the mobile FT (mobile.flyertalk.com) ... and by "doesn't display properly" I mean "doesn't display at all" (i.e. words appear without the strikethrough).

This can obviously lead to confusion when a mobile user reads a post that uses [strike], because the struck-out word appears as normal text.

Is there a way to fix this in the mobile site?

Thanks for the feedback cepheid ... we'll look into it.
