Encourage Use of Dates in Thread Titles
FT would be a much more efficient resource if posters would include dates in their thread/topic titles where appropriate (not tomention being more descriptive/specific in general). For example, rather than "New Double Points Promo", use "Double HH AMEX Points 12/1/06-12/31/06 (Targetted)". This would make it easier to find promo threads, reduce duplication, and generally save everyone a lot of time. I've also always thought that using dates in the thread title for property reviews and trip reports would also be more efficient.
The "problem" (to the extent that it is a problem) is only going to get worse as FT gets bigger and older. Perhaps an instruction could be added to the FAQs, then for a period of time moderators could revise thread titles until posters got in the habit of doing it themselves. |
I routinely edit thread titles to add the date for clarity's sake to any thread title that says "So-and-so and such-and-such today....." Putting the date after the word "today" will be helpful when someone down the line is doing a search.
I agree with you that I hope this would become standard practice. |
There's definitely a trend towards more and more cryptic or downright stupid thread titles -- not to mention titles with gross spelling and/or grammatical errors. ;)
I agree that putting more complete information (such as promo dates) in thread titles would be helpful, but the trend is, unfortunately, in exactly the opposite direction. And by the way, the word is "targeted." FlyerTalkers are such horrible spellers that most of them don't even get that one right, as easy as it is. |
