rule suggestion
 

How about a rule banning self appointed moderators? Every time I search these forums I have to wade through
"if you had half a brain you would have searched ..."
"a simple search would have enlightened you ..."
"mods lock this thread ..."
"try posting in the correct forum idiot ..."
"doesnt anyone read the stickys ...?"
"where did you learn to spell ..."
etc

I frequent the AAdvantage threads, so Im not sure if this is as much a problem in other forum areas.

Aside from cluttering up the forums, this generates animosity and makes the community less pleasant.

I propose deleting such worthless posts and warning the poster.

Have you discussed this topic with any of the 5 AA moderators? What did they say?

But seriously, if you had read the guidelines, you might have seen this:
If you have an issue with a post, please contact the member privately or contact a moderator. Do not make a situation worse by publicly responding.

True, that is there in the context of "Diversity". It's a bit obscure, though, and certainly not enforced from what I can see. Admittedly, I dont see the posts mods delete, nor the warnings they issue. I do see a lot of clutter and bickering that doesnt get deleted, though.

The mods are great, don't get me wrong there, I just wish that folks would let them do their job. The quote you gave gives some good options for reporting posts privately. I have to believe if someone's intention were pure, they would be doing this instead of making public pointed comments that serve no useful purpose. I mean why on Earth would someone post "mods, lock this thread because _____" when they could simply hit the report post button? Craving attention, feeling important, being recognized, fishing for an invitation to become a mod, ... ? I dont know what the intent is, but I sure wish these sort of posts could be deleted as they occur.

If you read the Flyertalk TOS, posts commenting on the subject of moderation are generally frowned upon. Perhaps you should send specific complaints to the five AA forum moderators or directly to Randy Petersen if you have issues with those moderators or their performance.

When I mentioned "self appointed moderators" I in no way was referring to the real moderators ... sorry if I was unclear about that.

Anyway, Ive had my rant :D I'm OK now.

"On-board discussion of moderator decisions - including post deletions and member discipline - is not allowed and will be removed. Members will also be subject to disciplinary action. If you have a question about a moderator action, contact the moderator directly or Randy Petersen."

Thanks, OklAAhoma, but that rule refers to "Discussing Specific Moderator Actions" which I haven't done.
