Implement CAPTCHA, Thwart Spammers?

Here's a suggestion: The spammers that are signing up for FlyerTalk and posting spam in the various forums are getting pretty annoying.

Perhaps installing a CAPTCHA system would help. I suspect most of these spammers are automated bots that can register for FT because it's just a form that can be automated. Putting in a CAPTCHA field for the registration page would stop most, if not all spambots like these. I have installed such a device on a personal message board and it stopped all of our spammers.

What do you think? It can be implemented with accessibility options in mind as well, with enhancements for FTers using screen readers, for example.

GREAT SUGGESTION...

As you can imagine, the moderators do not like having to deal with spammers either.

I would hope the HOM would take your suggestion and make it happen.

Thanks again for the idea.

Any thoughts?

Bump

Any thoughts from the FlyerTalk administrators? If you're not sure how to implement this, I would be happy to help advise doing it. It seems that vBulletin (the type of message board FT uses) has an option for using CAPTCHA, so it should be a simple upgrade.
