airline code lookup table

There is an airport code lookup table, but nothing comparable for airlines.

'seems to me a lookup table of airline codes would be quite useful, not only to clarify some lingo but also when obscure connecting airline, designed only by its code, makes it on a ticket or a reservation.

United is UA.

American is AA

DL is Delta,

Northwest is NW

CO is Continental

BA is British Airways.

KL is KLM

AF is Air France

All fairly logical really. ;)

That covers 90% of posts on FT

And for more obscure or less used ones try:

Here's the website I use for airline codes: http://www.avrefdesk.com/two_letter_airline_codes.htm.

You slighted WN, DH (deceased), LH (important *Alliance), HP, and many other not so obscure carriers. A tabulation of carriers does seem like a good aide to add.

WN (Southwest - this WAS the biggest slight), B6 (jetBlue), and FL (AirTran) should be in there for being thorns in the proverbial backsides of the legacies.

AS (Alaska), for being a neutral (and above-average) partner for seemingly everyone.

SQ (Singapore)... because a lot of people like talking about how amazing SQ is

And who could forget H1 ^ :p

How could you......

forget about CX!!!!!!

They should be somewhat unforgetable if you've spent anytime in the pointy end of a long haul flight. Plus the Wing and Pier at HKG, too. ^ ^

CX Cathay Pacific

The point of such things is to be comprehensive, that is to include the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly along with all the others.

35 years ago in Colombia, I flew on a national carrier (Uribe?) that had the cartoon crow characters Heckle and Jeckle painted on their planes. Even my young, reckless student mind questioned the wisdom of what I was undertaking when I climbed aboard. But if they are still around and have a symbol, they too should be included, especially since I did survive to tell of it.

(Why is CX so terrible? I have no experience of them, but have been tempted by their come-ons to fly to and around Asia for $999 or whatever it these days.)
