I wanted to suggest a forum to discuss this topic - perhaps organized by destination/service of origin. With the number portability in the US coming up in November of this year many people may want to switch services and none of us want to get locked into a service that has poor/expensive international roaming etc...

IMHO the existing Travel Technology forum should be sufficient, toegether with several others I already answer loads of cell phone related questions and there is a lot of GSM related information withing existing posts. I'd be happy to answer any of your questions there.
