Can Moderators Edit Topics?

There seems to be a higher frequency of, for lack of a better term, non-descriptive topic headings. If moderators had the ability to edit those (or perhaps add to the title so as to make it more descriptive), it might benefit everyone. Of course, there would surely be the usual protests, so maybe its more trouble than it is worth. A recent example, and the one which got me thinking about this, is the three current threads in S.P.A.M. relating to the ING Bank $25 offer. Of the three, only one topic mentions "ING". It seems as though the other two topics could be edited to include a reference to "ING". I'm not a techie, so I don't know whether this is even feasible or what ramifications it might have.

It's not a standard UBB feature, so unless FlyerTalk's done something special to the software to allow it, thread topics can't be changed.

This reminds me of the time when I thought 100,000 times 100 was 100million. A mistake that will live in FT Infamy forever! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Bump. Is this possible from a technical standpoint? There have been a number of misleading/non-descriptive thread titles in the SPG forum recently. Aso, it would be helpful from a search standpoint to correct misspellings, etc.

Moderators do not have the ability.

FT tech staff do have the ability.

My hunch is it would take quite a bit of programming to extend this functionality to moderators. I wonder what kind of security this would entail?

I have emailed the FT tech staff in the past when I was not happy with the title of one of my topics. They were able to change it without a problem. I believe at the time that I had referred to Skymiles as Slymiles. Today, i would have left it alone as Slymiles is a more appropriate title. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

gleff is correct... it's not a built-in moderator ability, but it is possible from an admin interface. There are some features like that which we're trying to kludge to allow moderators more control over their forums... it just takes time to get them out and tested to make sure we don't break something in UBB. One feature that we should have out soon is allowing moderators to grant/remove permissions for users to enter restricted forums.
