AirTran
Having just pasted through Atlanta, couldn't help but notice the amount of AirTran trafic. Looks like they are doing well. Have a good web site that is well organized and easy. Sounds like a good FF program. Maybe they need to be included here. I would like to hear from people who have used them.

Speaking from my own limited experience (about 10 trips with them), they are a very satisfactory carrier. Very good on-time performance, no problems with connections, and all-jet service.
They are far superior to Southwest, with pre-assigned seating and a business-class cabin. Sometimes the lines at the check-in get a little long, but have you ever checked in at Northwest in Detroit, or Delta in Newark? They're really not out of line here. |
Someone please correct me if my recollection is wrong. But isn't Air Tran what the "old" ValuJet is choosing to call itself now? Is there a risk involved? There certainly was when one of ValuJet's planes fell out of the sky. And this wasn't that long ago.

TravelDave: I think the point here is that AirTran runs a pretty significant operation here on the east coast and that, given their recent addition of a frequent flier program, there may be some interest from our fellow travellers to keep up with the "ins and outs" of that program. Perhaps they should be listed...

Most airlines have lost a lot more planes than AirTran ever has ... I guess we shouldn't fly them either ...

Beckles--Of course you can't avoid every airline that's ever had an accident, unless maybe you're Dustin Hoffman's "Rainman" and only fly Qantas. But do you agree that the number of planes being flown versus the number of problems which occur might establish a ratio worth considering?

I think it would be a great idea to make an Airtran forum. I've flown them a couple of times and their service was great. One thing I liked about them was that they were on-time everytime!

The fact that AirTran used to be called ValueJet and that they had an accident in the past, is irrelevant as to whether there is a discussion forum on them.
A discussion forum is someplace for people to voice their opinions, and this can't be done as easily if there isn't a forum. 2 things to consider: 1) American Airlines just had the first deaths on a US carrier since 1997 with their recent crash in Arkansas, - so, following the logic presented, should we remove the FlyerTalk forum on them? I don't think so.. 2) There are forums on this board for Tarom Romanian, Sun Air, Aero California, and LOT Polish.... I think that AirTran would get a lot more traffic than all of those combined. |

It is time for an AirTran board. There is discussion on a few threads at the moment why AirTran is lumped in "others". Now that DL is less then a quality airlines, people are looking for alteratives, and by not having their own forum, many visitors to the site are not finding AirTran and AirTran itself is lakcing info due to a lack of a forum of its' own.

I think with waves of people searching for DL alternatives, it would be a good time to try this board (again?). There are definitely angles to the program; I just completed three Business Class segments, paid with AMEX, and got a free coach award in the mail yesterday for just that!
Also an intriguing Corporate program, and a very significant route structure. |
AirTran does have a place to post on FT.
This forum is losted on the front page of FT Miles and has listed for some time the AirTran program. InsideFlyer even did a major story on them some months ago so they have not been avoided by IF/FT.
