<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">In April 2000, Le Méridien signed an historic global strategic alliance with Japan’s Nikko Hotels International, encompassing 22 Nikko hotels worldwide and giving the group a greater presence in key markets such as Asia Pacific and certain areas of North America (such as San Francisco and Mexico City). For Nikko, the alliance offers an increased presence in one of its key markets, Europe, where Le Méridien currently has 48 hotels.
Just one year after signing its historic global sales, marketing and reservations alliance with Nikko, Le Méridien has recorded a 30% increase in business from Japan – now its third revenue-generating market.
On 3 August 2001, Le Meridien and Nikko expanded their alliance. The addition of 22 properties (21 in Japan and 1 in China) will enlarge the two groups worldwide network to encompass 169 properties in 63 countries and territories.</font>
