Isn't it possibly somewhat unfair to a "REAL" bigot to be calling EPS one? http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/wink.gif

Again, having one or not having one are both fine with me and everyone is surely entitled to their own opinion - yet I wonder if it's not good for all of us to hear from each other in some fewer, larger, more diverse fora, rather than to be fragmented into possibly a bit too many fora?

Awareness and empathy is the biggest enemy of intolerance & bigotry that I'm aware of! http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/smile.gif

I'd really dislike possibly/likely losing some valuable insight by gay FT'ers who may well post info to a specialized forum that I, being straight, would not likely ever visit - no? And yes, the same may well apply to women, kids, ethnic minorities etc! http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/smile.gif

Doc, I like your point about insight, but I have no intention of reducing my posts in other forums.

Y'all are going to have to take our word for it-- it is just a desire for a forum we can call home. Something relatively safe wherein issues (and no, I'm not referring to anything of a sexual, profane or otherwise tawdry nature) that concern gay and lesbian travelers can be discussed without becoming diluted by other issues. Well, heck, I'm an idealist http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/wink.gif

Anyway, there's a phrase that comes to mind, and it may be Shakespeare's, but I'll misquote it nonetheless: "Methinks thou dost protest too much."

I guess what I'm saying is: if you're so disinterested in the creation _____ forum (just fill in the blank with gay and lesbian travel or whatever "faction" you please), why are you spending so much time trying to argue against it? I mean, I don't fly Southwest Airlines, nor do I stay at Marriott Hotels, and I'm not out there saying there isn't a need for their forums. I say live and let live.

Sure, we're talking apples and oranges. I mean an established hotel chain can't possibly compete with an established and lucrative travel market can it? OOps. Maybe we aren't talking apples and oranges. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/wink.gif

Look, I for one am not interested in any further "bickering" over this issue. I brought it up because I felt it missing. I don't enjoy seeing the way this thread has gone, and honestly did not expect it. But, it's there.

May I humbly suggest we simply spend the next week or so encouraging other FTers to express their "vote" on this issue - in this forum - in very simple terms. How about:
Pro (I support the creation of this forum)
or
Con (I do not support the creation of this forum)

Why don't we just let the responses make the call. We could probably debate this well into next year, and wouldn't get any closer to an answer.

Thanks guys.
The next post will be my vote.

Cheers
Kevin

Back from Rio - boy, did this thread develop!

Doc, I didn't have a hard time enjoying Rio - it was actually really easy http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/smile.gif

I particularly enjoyed your post on 7-26-2001, as it reflects exactly the way I feel. Thanks.

I, too, will continue to post to those forum which interest me and to which I feel I can contribute.

And if it be a Gay Travel forum, so be it.

I vote PRO.

clacko Aug 13, 2001 4:25 am

clacko Aug 13, 2001 4:27 am

I'm sort of afraid to ask ...

What is "bloodsport"?

ILuvParis Aug 13, 2001 12:45 pm

Blair, think Christians and Lions, for example. BTW, welcome back. I just got six free nights at the Hilton on Suffren, so I'm psyched!

Thanks, Jeff. I sent you an e-mail response from Rio, but I had some problems with the local ISP down there.

I won't even ask what you did for 6 free nights at the Hilton! http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/smile.gif That's great news.

In the interim, I did a search a search of "bloodsport" on the web - found mostly references to cock fighting and dog fights. Silly me - I thought it had something to do with that bare-fisted fighting that Brad Pitt simulated in "Fight Club" ...

pro to gay/lesbian, con on bloodsport

the palm springs tourist board puts out a great hotel /rest guide each year with a section on gay/lesbian friendly accomodations...i am free to read it if I choose so I don;t lose any valuable info...but free to ignore it. I think that's how FT could work w/ a gay/lesbian board

if you want to know more on bloodsports check s/m, b+d etc....

blairvanhorn Aug 14, 2001 4:43 am

Hi, squeakr.

Before this one goes any further:

I definitely think clacko was referring to lions, Christians, roosters and dogs - that's ALL that I wanted to know about. I'm not looking for any further information on the subject. At all. Really.

Dudster Aug 25, 2001 9:50 pm

So whatever happened to this suggestion? Any chance of making it happen?
