FT FF Glossary

I'm confident that this has been mentioned previouly, but I wasn't able to turn it up. I believe that a glossary of frequently used frequent flyer and FlyerTalk (say that 3 times real fast!) terms would be useful. I see a lot of new users asking for explanations of terms (not just airport codes and acronymns), and I know from experience that it takes a while to get the lingo down. Seems like a link at the top of the page would do the trick. And there would be no shortage of FTers who would volunteer to develop the definitions.

I would like to second this suggestion. I am a newbie that just found about this site. It seems great but when I started reading some posts I got lost.. (What are those GGONE, GGxxx thingies?) Was trying to find AKA-list in FAQ but could not find one... Sorry if I just missed it..

Thanks

JS

P.S. With that new "private" list, does it mean all the good deals would not be available anymore for people outside the list? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I third your suggestion cactuspete. I know almost all the general airline lingo there is to know. However, I do not know the specific acronyms and lingo for all the different carriers.

Also, the made up FT stuff is impossible unless you hang around the boards. Many new FTers have asked what a Bhat Run is. How would you know unless you read the boards.

Very good idea, CACTUSPETE.

More than happy to volunteer on such a project (even though I'm not a "veteran" FTer!)

I kinda started working on an FT Newbie Page back in April and early May. Then I had that whole appendix blowing up issue and haven't gotten back to it. Maybe this will spark the fire.

Anyways, here's what we started:

That is a good start. Where do we send our suggestions and/or cotributions? And can Randy bless this thing and put up a link to it once it is completed?

Great idea. Now to flesh it out/publicize it. I'll volunteer to share the little knowledge I have about ff programs. Chexfan, email me with what you need and I can work on it.

Excellent chexfan! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

And the wonderfully useful and amusing material from the earlier "banished" thread could easily be added to, no?

to all fairness, I must inform everyone that GG helped out on the effort as well.

A FlyerTalk "New Users Guide" is in full swing. Just be patient! It will be enjoyed by old and new members alike.

What you see is a very working version. That's why when there is a newbie, I'm not saying, "Hey go here..."

If you have ideas, suggestions, thoughts, feel free to send 'em (with links if applicable) to me. This includes different sections or topics.

chexfan, I've added your FT newbie page to my directory of FTers' Resources on the Web (link below). Even though it's still under construction, it's looking good!
