Another forum suggestion ?

I noticed that there are quite a few posts about Mypoints in "The Buzz." I know mypoints.com offers frequent flyer miles while others such as freeride.com do not (and others like webbonusmiles.com claim they will). Since I suspect that readers of this board like miles & points of all kinds, maybe a forum titled "Miles & Points on the Net." I hope that's not too off-topic. It seems like discussions of mypoints, freeride, alladvantage, etc. could be posted there.

doc Mar 1, 2000 10:06 am

I agree and thought I'd bring this forward for feedback!

Catman Mar 1, 2000 11:36 am

A miles and points section would work very nicely and keep all these little offers for those interested.. and those who don't have the time to click on a zillion Web sites.

SO I think it's a great idea too Randy.

baobab Mar 1, 2000 12:10 pm

The tree is in favour of this idea.

SCMM Mar 1, 2000 12:45 pm

One of the silent (in comparison) majority also agrees.

kokonutz Mar 1, 2000 1:58 pm

Ditto.

onefreeman Mar 2, 2000 8:40 am

ANYTHING that will cut down the noise level would be a tremendous improvement. Please make it so [and soon]...

dgolds Mar 2, 2000 8:49 am

I couldn't agree more. The Buzz has really gotten off focus IMHO. Thanks for a good suggestion.

james Mar 2, 2000 9:24 am

I too strongly agree

Randy Petersen Mar 2, 2000 6:07 pm

I hope you all know how much we value the input. This is one of those seemingly rare occasions where a variety of you all agree on one thing. I can do this and will take just a few days to properly think of the title and description for such a forum. I have noticed all the attention that MyPoints and ClickRewards get and it is pretty distracting to the other forums because of the vast amount of offers that just MyPoints sends out. Just one favor.....remember to watch my back if I hear from anyone that we're creating too many forums......

doc Mar 2, 2000 7:18 pm

Thanks very much as always Randy.

Catman Mar 2, 2000 11:46 pm

How about "Non-Travel Mileage building Programs?"

(with the caption: information on point builder programs like ClickRewards and Mypoints)

Or is that too technical for people who are new to the world of Frequent flyer programs?

Randy, I try to watch the back of all my friends! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Thank you Randy. I would also like to remind you that a while ago you had a proposal for the users to be able to customize their displays, so that they could block off forums which were not of interest. That would be another useful feature, since the number of forums keeps increasing.

NJDavid Mar 3, 2000 9:49 am

I re-forward my original suggestion:

Sites withPromotions and Alternative Miles

trujvagi Mar 3, 2000 6:58 pm

Glad to see Aaron's idea being implemented! Even though there are numerous forums, this new one would definitly clean up OMNI! Hope to see it soon.

RichG Mar 7, 2000 4:01 pm

Now that Randy has agreed to do this, at the considerable risk of being accused of being a front-runner, I'll agree strongly, as well. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Some days MyPoints and the like take up 80% or more of the active Buzz threads.

shadow Mar 7, 2000 8:35 pm

I won't leave you out there alone Rich, but you're probably a 'chalk bettor' too. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I'm in agreement also.

Efrem Mar 12, 2000 10:56 am

A great idea, even if truth in advertising forces me to point out that I first suggested it last October in http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum73/HTML/000105.html but it didn't get much interest then. By all means let's clean out The Buzz!

onefreeman Mar 13, 2000 5:47 am

Not to be catty efrem, but the original post in this thread is from August of '99...

Efrem Mar 13, 2000 1:04 pm

You are absolutely right. My apologies to you, Aaron and everyone else. I saw the March 2000 dates and assumed the post was recent rather than checking.

This apology is instead of editing my post just above yours into nothingness (the most I could do, since I can't delete it), as that would leave your post looking meaningless.

Now, on to the new forum!

Aaron Mar 13, 2000 6:04 pm

I'm glad to see that there is support for this! With the proliferation of different internet points programs and "pyramid" programs like AllAdvantage, etc., this is more relevant now than it was in August 1999.

doc Mar 14, 2000 5:45 am

Yes, indeed, a whole lot MORE!!!!

The ability to simply sign in and get referrals has seemingly been the greatest boon/incentive for "lurkers" to jump to "newbies" that I've ever witnessed in the history of FT!

And clearly not entirely good, in the minds of many FT's! I can see their point as I too have some mixed feelings about this as well.

A new section should help considerably and things have already calmed down quite a bit.

Thanks again for the suggestion, Aaron, and for Randy for announcing implementation so promptly.

ThirdDegree Mar 22, 2000 1:21 am

Any progress on the new forum front? I'd love to see this area consolidated, too, as it will make it so much easier to find those things that are of interest to me. Kind of the reverse of the people who want it out of their way, but I suppose the result is the same. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

kokonutz Mar 30, 2000 11:47 am

Just bringin' this thread (and Randy's comments http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif) forward!!!

BostonBoy May 7, 2000 7:48 pm

I too will bring this thread forward because:
  • I agree with it
  • Nothing has happened yet

deanne May 8, 2000 8:13 pm

This is a good idea! Looking forward... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

doc May 8, 2000 11:22 pm

Happily you won't be doing any waiting! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

It's already happened! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
