Round-The-World
Maybe it was discussed already, but I certainly vote for a RTW forum. The amount of information necessary to plan a successful trip (without dealing with a RTW specialist travel agent) is mind boggling.

you find a lot of information under the oneworld- and the StarAlliance title (prices/price-comparisons/rules/mileage-strategies, etc., etc).

I must admit....these RTW's are tough to plan if you aren't used to a region you are flying to.

The info in OW and Star forums are specific to the alliance. What I am alluding to is a area dealing with RTW of mix airlines (Such as any RTW fare that can get me in and out of China easily). I know the purpose of these forums is to maximize FF points, but the same people here have extensive knowledge in that area.

I would agree with hsi. on this one. I think there is room for a RTW message area. From my own point of view I think that unless you are traveling business/first class you are better off not buying a comprehensive RTW ticket. This allows the utmost in flexibility and usually ends up cheaper. I have done this before and buy my tickets as I go. $169 from JFK-MAD. $350 from MAD-HEL-BKK. $1050 BKK-NRT-JFK (business class on ANA). All but the JFK to MAD segment were credited on my Delta Skymiles account.
I think it would be interesting to discuss what cities are better for buying tickets, and what routes have particularly cheap fares, etc. I think that RTW discussion within alliance message boards tends to constrain the discussion. An RTW message board would let people freely explore other options, not just those aligned with a particular airline alliance. |
