Definition of a junior member?

Shouldn't the FAQ define what "junior" in junior member means?

pshuang, we've discussed this a number of times in the past, and whether we even need to do it this way.

As it is currently structured, a new 'poster' to F-T is a Jr. Member until they reach 30 posts. On the 31st, the Jr. disappears and the listing changes to Member.

One thing I will offer...you will have more credibility if you post an e-mail address in your profile. There are people that claim they want to maintain their anonymity here, and are concerned about spamming. I've had my e-mail address in since my first post (7/1/99), and it has not been a problem.

I disagree that having an email gets one more credibility. I have displayed my email since day 1. It is what you post, and not whether you display your email, which matters.

Being relatively new to this online forum (although I've been participating in online forums since 1985), I don't really have a strong opinion about whether junior membership is something that ought to or ought not exist. However, as long as it does, it ought to be clarified somewhere, like the FAQ.

As for providing credibility by giving an email address in the profile, I did in fact consider the potential con with respect to credibility. I decided that initially I would leave it out since I could always add it later if I wanted, but once I've added it, removing it will do no good if a spam address harvester struck in the interim.

Junior Member:

a. Someone who just thought of a new "nutty" name. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

b. A member of the Stevens Family. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

c. A pfffffffft!

Some of us juniors are seniors again http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Now if only I could get rid of my habit of using my old name.

If you need Jr. Members (not sure why), at least let people know what it means. Perhaps you need to go to a bronze, silver, gold, ultra, etc. program depending on the number of posts? Actually I think a "member since xx/xxxx" would identify new members just as well.

please ... don't make this a four (or more) page thread again - have a look at http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum97/HTML/000012.html ... and laugh - please.

Credibility trump card: Using your real name. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Actually, maybe "accountability" might be more accurate...
