A Victorious Night for SPG at the Freddie Awards!

http://thelobby.com/2009/04/a_specta...at_the_fre.php

I don't understand how Marriott won the Americas Hotel Program of the Year category, because I thought that Starwood should have won that one.

But it appears that Starwood won the most awards anyhow!

Congratulations Starwood, well done!!!

My guess is that people tend to vote for their own program, and Marriott did a pretty good job of inundating its customers with mail asking them to vote in the Freddies. More members=more votes.

To me, the Freddies mean as much to me as an anonymous AOL poll of 5-year olds asking them to vote for their favorite Central American dictators. There's a reason I stay with Starwood, and it's not because of Sir Fred.

Maybe I miscounted, but I only counted Starwood with 8 wins to Marriott's 9.

That's my problem with the Freddie awards. They should normalize it somehow instead of going by pure vote count.

this reminds me of the comment I made in the Marriott thread on the freddies

Regarding Marriott winning 9 Freddies just b/c they swamped their ma and pa kettle crowd with propoganda.. they won... and that winning the freddies is pretty much a useless award now

Thanks to everyone for the kudos, but this was my count as well. Looks like Hilton nabbed a few from both us and Marriott that we garnered last year.

Come on William.

Winning in Japan/Asia/Pacific/Australia counts TWICE as much as winning in North America, since the people over there are more discerning and less likely to do ballot-stuffing like in North America.
So in my book, Starwood actually won 16 awards

You know when Starwood won Best website Americas that there is something terribly wrong with the method. IMHO Freddies has been a farce for a long time.

Will Starwood be congratulating us voters with a special redemption promo as in years past?

I find Marriott success count surprising in view of the dramatic devaluation of their points last year, and would have thought the MR member would give them low votes.
