Depends on what you're looking for. In this case, I'd take Luxor. It's connected by an easy walk or free tram ride to Mandalay Bay and Excalibur; and from Excalibur a simple walk to New York New York and MGM. Without a car, you can get to several nice properties with a lot to offer. The Westin is never an option for me. Just my opinion.

If you're looking at Starwood hotels to hit Platinum, it's by far the best choice in Vegas. If you're looking for a nice place to stay, it's good but you can often find better deals at even nicer properties. If you're Platinum, most report good upgrades. If you're staying on the weekend, Vegas is almost always expensive. If you're staying during the week, you should be able to find considerably better prices. What are your dates? Do you need the stay credit to requalify? Depending on your days, you can be at the Wynn for 150/n and get a $100 credit towards food, shopping or slots...similar deal at Encore, which should deepen their discounts as opening week unfolds for them.

1/17 and 1/18. I found out afterwards that if I book the nights separately, the 18th is $89, while 17th is $149. If I book them together, it's $149 each night.

I'm already Platinum at SPG, so I always try to stay with Starwood properties. I guess I need to get to 50 nights/25 stays again in 2009, and it's not a lock from my other stays.

Make two separate reservations and have the front desk link them when you check in, so you don't need to check out and back in or risk a room change.

Just left after a 3 night stay. I go to PH (and previously Aladdin) once to twice a year. This was the least impressive of any of the stays. The rate was great ($65/night but no bonuses or offers of any significant kind). The front desk service was appalling. Never has it been more clear that they couldn't care less about the SPG program, certainly not Platinum members. No greeting, no thank you for being platinum, no welcome back, no offer of platinum amenity, $25 gym fee "reduced" to $15 for SPG Plats (although A-list Platinum members are offered complimentary gym and spa access). The same strip suite I've stayed in now for the last 4 or so years is horribly run down and more fitting of a room at Circus Circus. The hotel never fulfilled its commitment to put movie memorabilia into the guest rooms despite putting memorabilia display cases into the rooms (now sitting empty). The hallways were a mess. Room service trays and las vegas phone books strewn about the halls at all hours of the day and night. The carpet looked like it hadn't seen a vacuum in weeks.
Bottom line in my opinion is they simply don't care about plats or the SPG program. The front desk staff were snobby, unfriendly, and really a headache to deal with.

The casino floor however I can't speak highly enough of. They really have down great things in my opinion over the last couple of years. The heart bar, the pleasure pit, great music, not too loud but loud enough. The front facade is also much improved over the last year.

My brother in law decided to forgo the SPG benefits and booked a stay at Wynn on hotwire for $73 on a Saturday in January. If Wynn is $73, that should put PH prices at about $39, no?

Writing this post from a Strip View Suite at PH and I have to say that this place has truly redefined mediocrity on a grand scale. After a litany of problems during my stay, ("Extra towels? Well we're in the middle of a shift change so it will be a few hours... CLICK," to name just one) I have decided once and for all that until Starwood opens a decent property in Vegas, I will resist temptation and forego the stay and night credits in favor of good service. Considering the record low occupancy rates, you would think that they would at least try to provide a pleasant experience to encourage return visits. As I mentioned to the duty manager last night, this hotel always seems to find new ways of disappointing me, which raises the inevitable question of why I bother staying here. Off to the Wynn today for my last two nights.

In the past week, I completed the same PH/Wynn visit as several above.

It was my first PH stay. I was there for one night only. I was upgraded at check-in to what I believe is a strip view suite: 2151. I was very pleased with it, especially given my rate paid. It had a nice enough view and was large and well laid out. My only complaint is that a bit of light streamed in to the sleeping area through the doorless bathroom, as one bathroom shade did not go all the way down. My room was "Good Will Hunting" themed, with appropriate memorabilia, contrary to what was noted above.

I liked the gaming areas a great deal. Classy, modern, friendly... really good overall.

I was the one who first wrote about the $65 promo with $25 table match play and $15 slot credit. I did indeed get the latter two, but they seemed more a function of joining the players club (a-list) rather than my room rate. The coupons are part of the book that is given with enrollment. How do they offer this for those who are already in the a-list club? Do they just give you another coupon book?

My sole complaint was the $5 resort fee, which I knew about in advance. It is such a crock. I will say that the front desk staff is very well trained in how to field complaints on it. It is clear that they hear about it a lot. I couldn't get the charge removed, but the agent seemd very polished in hearing me out.

I can't speak much to what bothered everyone else, as I was only there for a quick night stay. I will note, however, that I am impressed that this property honors Plat upgrades so willingly. As a casino, they have competing interests for the better rooms (comped players), but they seem to honor SPG status nevertheless.

I'd stay here again in the future if the price is right and I need the stays/nights. Otherwise, Wynn was clearly superior (and free for me). Just a totally different class of hotel. They aren't competing on the same tier.
