This sounds like a resort vista room. Was the tub a round roman tub?

Not sure what you paid but I stayed there on saturday, booked on spg.com and paid $68 before taxes and fees. Resort vista room, $40 in promo credits plus a bunch of miscellaneous discounts. Another wonderful stay ^. I went to PH 3 times over the last 3 months (all weekend trips) and each time it was <$100/nt. Overall in 6 or 7 stays this year only once I was not upgraded to resort vista room. This is a exceptional property for a Plat in LAS or anywhere in US.

While I don't support resort and similar junk fees, a couple bottles of water cost a few bucks after all and I don't have to walk to the marketplace...

Both the Westin and the PH are charging a "resort fee" now. For $5.50ish you get free bottled water, a daily newspaper and free local calling. It is a pretty small amount of money, so I am not too bothered, but given the choice I would rather go back to the pay for what you use model.

Now, I would be more than happy to pay $5.50 a day for valet parking if they could just reduce the time it takes to get your car back by, say, 30 minutes or so!

Vegas and water? You can order champagne from the room service that is rather competitively priced and comes fast......

This didn't occur to me - I'll look into this option next time. I usually pick up smth of that nature from ABC store on the way from parking

How can they charge a resort fee when none of the corresponding services represent a resort? In the winter, even the pool is closed and the gym always has a fee. Those are the only two services that correlate with a resort. This should be called a water/newspaper fee, and guests should be given the option. If the hotel needs the revenue, then raise the room rates by that much instead of irritating customers.

This resort fee nonsense really stinks - the hotel is not "all that". I just got a Wynn promo for 129/159 and decided to cancel PH and stay at the Wynn instead - besides the resort fee, the crowding, the poorly managed valet system, I will give PH a rest.

Let me see: $67+$5 fee or $159+$0 fee - well just to make a point I am gonna spend $90 more... @:-)

As for all other reasons - if you want to avoid the crowds and parking issues and get a newer room head to Trump...

My PH rate wasn't 67 - of course if I was paying 67, I wouldn't switch, but for my dates, PH was charging 169.

Trump has been criticized for rather expensive and mandatory valet parking.

What dates are you getting 129/159 for at the Wynn?

I'm booked at PH for Dec 27-31 at 153/99/99/199 (which averages out to $137.50/nt). Checked with Wynn and they're $219/nt for the Wynn and $249/nt for the Encore. I don't need the stay or nights for status so I would actually prefer to stay elsewhere than PH.

My promo is blacked-out for your dates - 219/weekend and 159/weeknight were the lowest other rates I saw for a 2n minimum and $100 food/slot or shopping credit, but I don't think even that is available unless you're checking out on the 31st.

I also found Encore at 161/n over my dates (12/26-28) at the hotel booking tool at americanexpress travel.

The amazing waste of this hotel property is having two large heated pools.

Pools are only open 6 hours per day in winter (10-4), if open at all, and 8 hours in summer (10-6).

I've stayed in this hotel numerous times and managed to hit pool hours once for 15 minutes.

What a waste of a terrific hotel environment on the large pool patio.

You haven't missed much. The pools have huge potential, but the absence of many of the comfort amenities found at most other (even some of the lesser) hotels is outrageous and inexcusable for a hotel of PH's size. The abundance of concrete and small number of cabanas, palm trees, water features, etc. is really quite weird given their contrast to the glitziness of the indoor spaces. I don't generally stay at PH in the summer mostly because of this.

Most definitely... PH is not competitive with medium/high end properties with their pool....and they sure want to charge competitive rates with these properties. Now in the winter it is no big deal...it is a deal breaker in the summer
