I have always requested and was given a resort room when staying here as gold. I am checking in tonight and hope for the same.

Thumbs up Huge upgrade on a recent stay

I had a one night visit here a few days ago. I am a Platinum member. They didn't have a non-smoking upgrade available for me. I told the check-in agent that was fine, a standard non-smoking room (ideally on a refurbished floor) would be just fine. She said, "Just a minute," and walked away.

She came back and said, "I've got you something I think you'll enjoy," and handed me my keys.

It was an enormous one bedroom suite in a half-circle shape, with windows all the way around. It had a living room w/ a 60-ish inch plasma screen, bar, dining/poker table & two bathrooms, with a jacuzzi tub in the master bath, which opened out into the living room (). It was at the very end of a hall, with a view toward the side of the Paris Hotel. Looking to the left, I could see about half of the Bellagio fountains.

The room was a bit over-the-top funky (go figure -- in Vegas). Reminded me of a Hotel Monaco on steroids, though in the PH purple & gold motif.

I was only there for one night, and only a few hours at that, so it's not as though I used much other than the bed & bathroom, but I was impressed with the check-in agent's desire to take care of me as a SPG Platinum member. ^

As I've said before, I like this hotel quite a lot since the refurbishment. The rooms are nice, the beds are very nice and the casino area is classy and not over-the-top overwhelming as the majority of them are. It's also in a great location on the strip. I haven't been back to the Westin since this property has been converted.

It is odd that you would ask, as this happens to be a rare occasion that I did, in fact, take some pictures. I want to show them to an interior designer friend of mine.

I haven't downloaded them off the camera yet, but if you wish to see them, I can e-mail them to you when I do.

Sure!!!

It would be nice if you added them here as well. As the one of the chiefs (along with Ms. Congeniality) of this forum, you know very well that you can't post a glowing review and then leave us hanging like the Soprano's Series Finale!

Nice review. I hope to get the same treatment when I check-in on Saturday. If you get a chance to post the pic here, that would be great.

I'm here all week for CES and was very impressed that they gave me a strip suite for one of my two rooms without me asking. I had 1 paid reservation and 1 points reservation on each of 2 rooms, so 4 reservations total. They got me set up so I would not have to come down and get new keys, gave me a strip suite without me asking. The guy who checked me in, Jose, was exceptional, much nicer and more helpful than any of the Aladdin staff had ever been when I checked in.

I'll probably write more of a review after CES if I get time, but I will say a few things now. First, I really liked the look of the hotel much better as Aladdin and am sad they rebranded it. I don't like the new look or brand nearly as much. Second, they really have not done much to the hotel other than taking down the castle facade in front and all the lighted jewels on the exterior of the hotel and repainting the exterior white. Desert Passage still looks the same, was just renamed Miracle Mile and they no longer play Arab music (I miss the music).

The strip suite we are in seems to have no renovations at all except new bedding and bath amenities. The bedding is an upgrade. No movie stuff, everything is the same as it was before. Same carpet, same furniture, etc. The other room we have has 3 or 4 movie related items. One is a jacket someone I never heard of supposedly wore in a movie before I was born, the others are posters for movies I never heard of. When i heard they now had "movie themed" rooms, I assumed each room would have a particular theme. But it seems instead they just randomly threw up stuff that relates to a movie with no thought to fitting it together with the other stuff in the room. I guess that made the job much easier and cheaper, but it's not at all attractive to me. It's a shame that the Iraq war and other world events made them feel they had to do away with the Aladdin theme and replace it with the Planet Hollywood theme.

But I'm glad that my experience is not what others have complained of in terms of worse service from the front desk and less upgrades. I actually got better service and a better upgrade than I expected during CES and I will probably stay here again next year rather than going back to the Westin where I've stayed the last couple CES shows. There are only 2 things I think are disadvantages here over the Westin: 1) they have no CES shuttle bus service, I have to take the bus to and from the Bellagio across the street and 2) the pools and hot tubs here are all closed for winter while Westin keeps theirs open.

Just got back an hour ago, Jose at the Gold/Plat desk was awesome. When I walked up he said he automatically upgraded me to the Resort room for my gold status, without asking. I had a business associate with me without status on her own reservation and Jose gave her an upgrade as well and a view of hte fountains! We were in room 1871 which is refurbished nicely. Now the have a 42 plasma and tasteful decor in the rooms. No more sofa, but two nice chairs. I dont think they did anything with the bathrooms as they are marble anyway, but the Aladdin shower knob is still there (shaped like a lamp). Very happy with the new design. My parents are still there and I checked out their room. They were on the 11th floor in a resort room in the old style. Looks old and dated, kind of reminds my of Circus Circus. Much prefer the new rooms.

FYI - Make sure to check out the new "pit" The BlackJack dealers here do a go-go dance on a rotation shift standing on a small platform between the tables with very little to cover themselves with. Unfortunatley they are all $25+ tables here though...

SPG Gold Mini-Report

My experience almost mirror's CandymanJim's. I booked 1 week in advance for two nights: 2/11 and 2/12. $89 per night in a Deluxe City View Room (the cheapest rate available on SPG.com). When I got to the gold/plat desk, I was recognized as a Gold Member and was upgraded and checked in within 5 minutes. *Note: The line at regular check in at 6:30pm on 2/11 was about 10 people long** I was upgraded to a Resort Room (3081 in the North Tower) with an amazing view of the Bellagio Fountains. The room was the "Bridges of Madison County" room with a few items of memorabelia from said movie. My room was exactly like CandymanJim's except on a higher floor, movie themed & with a view of the Bellagio Fountains.

I was treated wonderfully by the PH staff. Would definately return.

Cancelled and rebooked a night in May to take advantage of the "work to live"-up to 6000 points promo. Any idea how long it takes to return my advance deposit ? (I presume it will automatically be credited back to my CC)
