Thats where I will be using my Platinum free night award. Maybe in June.
I drove by this place 2 weeks ago and still a lot of construction. It looks fantastic though, and the location is prime.

Yeah, I heard there is still a lot of "last" minute work being done. Almost half the rooms weren't ready on opening day still but I think it's getting done quickly.

Location is definitely prime, I agree.

just had a good stay at the new Atlanta St Regis...

This is a very nice, brand new 5 star property.

We used points to book a 'St Regis Suite"... oversize bathroom, separate sitting room with powder room... slept well, but frankly thought the bed was a little too firm.

Our stay included butler service... afternoon tea for some friends who visited and pressing my wife's jacket. The butler also delivered our morning coffee on request... this was all $NC.

The fitness area is excellent and large by hotel standards.. I used it twice. It overlooks the pool and courtyard area which is elegant.

Cons; internet was $12 per day and the new staff still has a few rough edges.. not to be confused with butler service at the NYC St Regis just yet.

My wife doesnt care for the location ... its actually a little bit out of the way from the shopping areas near Lenox... she prefers the location of the Ritz and Westin...

Otherwise, this would be my hotel of choice in the Buckhead area.

St Regis Atlanta Trip Report Part 1

I recently stayed here using some of my SPG Free Weekend Nights. ^ Since this hotel just opened less than 2 months ago there doesn't seem to be many reviews (and no SPG Plat reviews yet) so I thought I'd add my 2 cents here. Actually, this review will be quite long with lots of pics, so it might be more like 3 cents that I'm adding.

The hotel was brand spanking new. The lobby was beautiful:

The rooms were beautiful. It was just an all-around nice place. The first 10 floors belong to the hotel. All the other floors (there are probably 25 floors or so total in the hotel) are St Regis Residences that people buy individually. I heard that only a few of them were actually sold though, which is not unexpected with the crappy economy. This cheapest rates were $250 per night the weekend I was there. Valet parking was $32 per night, but I managed to find free parking next door in an emptyish construction lot and avoid the $32 per night. ^ I think self-parking in the garage was available for like $25 per night if you aren't as bold as I was. There isn't much street parking nearby, maybe 10 spots or so near the hotel that you can use overnight if you are gone by 9AM, but valet for the nearby restaurants hog up at least half of those parking spots (how is that allowed I wonder?).

Hallway Pic:

As an SPG Plat booked into the cheapest room category using my Free Weekend Nights, I was upgraded to Room 827, a fabulous Caroline Astor Suite, of which there are only 3 in the hotel:
http://www.starwoodhotels.com/stregi...assId=83100062
Room Layout Map:

The front desk agent showed us up to our room and said that this was basically the best Suite in the hotel except for 1 that is larger. I'd have to agree with him that it was a phenominal Suite. It was 680 Sq Ft with a separate bedroom and living room, although there was no door between the 2 rooms. It had a large bathroom with Remede toiletries and a separate shower and large deep-soaking bathtub (very nice and comfortable ^, although my wife wouldn't try it even though it was less than 2 months old as she refuses to use bathtubs that other naked butts have been in as I guess she thinks they have cooties or something).

The bathroom also had this very cool feature of a 17” TV that was built into the mirror (I don’t know how they pull that off, but they did which was pretty cool) as can be seen here:

St Regis Atlanta Trip Report Part 2

Top of the line electronics in the rest of the room as well. The phones were really high-tech with these touch screens with which you could control the temperature and A/C in the room, and you could also turn on and/or dim any or all of the lights in the room from it. There was a nice high-end Denon surround-sound system in the living room with subwoofer and a couple speakers. Also a Bose WaveRadio type of Denon radio in the bedroom that was high quality. There were two 37" flat panel TVs in the room. The couch was very nice and comfortable and the desk in the living room was fantastic as it was wrapped in white leather, very classy ^. The living room had LOTS of room and there was also a walk in closet that was probably 100 Sq Ft by itself!!! The bed and especially the pillows were VERY comfortable. Definitely two thumbs up for those. ^^

View from bedroom to living room:

View of living room:

The highlight of the room though was a HUGE balcony with 2 very nice cushioned chairs and well as a comfortable, cushioned 2-person loveseat. The balcony was listed at 200 Sq Ft but my Suite seemed to have have been bigger (seemingly the biggest balcony of the 3 Caroline Astor Suites all on Floor 8) as it was right in the middle and had a great view of both the pool and the garden/terrace. Of the 6 blue awnings in the below picture, the 2nd and 3rd ones belonged to my room along with that whole portion of the balcony between the dividers:

Only the Caroline Astor Suites had these huge walk-out balconies:

The 8 Metropolitan Suites (which would probably be the Standard SPG Plat upgrade) have the exact same room layout (I assume they are the rooms on Floors 9 & 10 directly above the Caroline Astor Suites), except they don't have the walkout balconies, rather they have this faux balcony (they call it a Juliette balcony) which you can barely get 1 foot out onto it seems. Note the Juliette balcony in the Suite above mine:

But the inside of those rooms would be just as nice it seems. As an SPG Plat, I certainly wouldn't arrive expecting as nice an upgrade as I got, so don't get your hopes up. But even if you are upgraded to a Metropolitan Suite, you will be fully content with your room IMHO.

Let's see, what else. The gym is huge and has lots of new equipment, treadmills, a separate cardio/aerobics room, and unlimited free bottled water in a refrigerator. It is on Floor 7 and takes up pretty much that entire side of the floor looking out directly over the pool. I've found that St Regis properties with Residences seem to have fantastic gyms since people actually live there as well and a nice gym must be a huge selling point. There is also a business center there on the 5th floor with 2 computers that can be used for free Internet and free printing, although it is kind of annoying that it only gives you 15 mins and then you have to keep clicking some icon that says "I want another 15 minutes", until it finally boots you off after you've clicked it about 4 times, so you have an hour or so max before it shuts down, erases all passwords, and then you can either log in again after waiting a couple minutes or else immediately switch to the other computer. Oh yeah, and the SPG Plat amenity was 3 nice high-quality St Regis chocolate bars and a 1L bottle of Evian:

Not everything was perfect though and I want to give a balanced review so I will disclose the negatives as well. There were a couple service glitches that I encountered, but in general they were fixed ASAP:
1) My wake up call never came the first morning. Luckily I didn't have an important meeting as I woke up an hour after I requested my wake up call which never came. I called my "Butler" about an hour after that to ask where the free morning coffee/tea was that was mentioned on the website. I asked if it was in the lobby or somewhere else. She said "Oh that comes with your wake-up call, whoops, did you not get your wakeup call?" I said, no and she apologized a couple times and said she'd send 1 coffee and 1 tea right up, and as a gesture of goodwill since they forgot my wakeup call they would send a basket of pasties up as well. I thought that was nice of them and it made up for the missed wakeup call. ^ I also got NO newspaper the first morning even though at the front desk they had me select TWO newspapers that they would deliver me each morning.
2) I called again that night for a wakeup call the second morning. They asked this time if I wanted a coffee and tea like I had that morning (so they must keep track of little things like this) and I said yes. They also apologized again for missing my wakeup call that morning and assured me that they would not miss it the next morning. Well, they didn't miss my wakeup call, however when they came with my complimentary morning beverage and paper, it was just coffee and no tea, even though I had requested 1 coffee for myself and 1 tea for the wifey. Although there WERE two newspapers this morning. But the coffeepot this morning was only half as big as the coffeepot the previous morning, so it was almost too little for the 2 of us to share..............and I wasn't about to call up to have them deliver the pot of tea as it wasn't that big of a deal, just a small service glitch that I thought I should mention here.
3) As I mentioned earlier, there was a nice high-end Denon DVD surround sound gizmo in the entertainment console of the living room. I called my Butler and asked if they had a supply of DVDs for the DVD player. "Nope, sorry the DVD player is only for if you bring your own DVDs". Hmmm, should I ask my Butler to fetch a DVD and popcorn for me? Not sure what else they are there for except simple requests like that as I had zero contact with a Butler while I was there. I never know exactly what is the point of those Butlers anyways. I have had Butlers across various hotel chains about 5 times now and I have never had them do anything of use for me. I mean, it's not like I'm gonna ask them to fish through my dirty underwear in my bag to fold them. Or even have them unpack my bags. So what exactly are they there for other than to make you think you are special cuz you "have a Butler"???????!?!?!!?!?

Anyways, all in all it was a great stay. Great room upgrade, and seeing how there are 31 Suites in the hotel out of 151 total rooms, the odds for a Plat Suite upgrade are good, granted . Great location in Buckhead a little bit away from all the hussle and bustle of the malls, but within easy walking distance of good dining options and even a Whole Foods across the street. Great public areas in the hotel. I'm sure the small service glitches will get ironed out as the staff works there longer and gets used to everything. I really enjoyed my stay though and give it an solid A grade, definitely worth using some Free Weekend Nights there or even 12k SPG pts per night as it's only a Cat 5 property. Oh yeah, Ty Pennington was in the Caroline Astor Suite right next door to us.

Excellent review gregorygrady ^. In booking a room for September, I do not see the Astor Suites as even being listed, just the Metropolitan Suite and the St Regis Suite which seems to be considerably larger. Did the front desk mention if they were assimilating these into the Metropolitan category since the room layouts are the same?

There was a WSJ article about the place this week ... basically saying that the place is nice but completely empty. Is that the case?

No, we were on a SC/GA/FL beach-type vacation and I wasn't even planning on staying at the St Regis. Needless to say we really only had beach-type and other casual clothes packed for our fairly short trip. We felt a bit too underdressed with my shorts on to go to their restaurants for a nice meal. It was a pretty classy place as all the people were quite well dressed for dinner in the restaurants and the bar.

The Caroline Astor Suites can only be booked thru in-hotel reservations. My guess is the standard price for an Astor Suite would fall somewhere in between the Metropolitan Suite and the St Regis Suite, or probably about $50 more per night than the Metropolitan Suite.

I read that article after you mentioned it here. I certainly don't think it was as empty as the article claimed it to be. Supposedly the Residence portion of the building have not been selling well, which is fully expected due to the crappy economy. However there were certainly many other guests staying there when we were there on the weekend. There were plenty of people in the bar and restaurant on Fri/Sat nights. And the pool was fully packed on both Sat and Sun morning/afternoon.................in fact they had to go into their storage area and wheel out more pool loungers/chairs as there weren't enough for all the guests that wanted one.

But I could see it possibly being more empty during the week which is when it sounded like the writer of that article stayed. Not many business travelers are throwing around the kind of money that St Regis is asking for these days anymore. Plus there are so many other great options for hotels in that area that are cheaper yet still high-end (Westin/W/IC/Grand Hyatt/etc).

Does anyone have any thoughts on how this hotel compares to the Ritz Carlton? My brother-in-law has a reservation at the latter for the night of his wedding but I am thinking of trying to move him here.

I stayed here last night (Friday night) and had these observations:

Checked in rather late (due to tight schedule at the DL Do), as a Plat was given a "Grand Deluxe Room" (which is basically a regular room with a large balcony/patio - room 552 which didn't overlook the pool but an adjacent building - this is the highest "regular room" category below the suites). I knew they had preblocked this room type for me for several days since it showed up in my reservations details. I inquired about suites - they said none were available (not sure if I totally believe that but I didn't care to check-up on it). Proactively asked if I needed a late checkout (which I did ask for 3 PM).

Platinum amenity (along with a note from the GM) was in the room which was a bottle of wine (made me have to check my bag on the return flight).

Room feels very fresh as it should since the property is only about 2 months old. Decorated more in a traditional style (not really my taste - which runs more towards the St R SF but it is very well done).

There is a "business center" with two computers with internet access that are complimentary to guests on the 5th floor. Toiletries are Remede (and there was only 1 bar of soap ).

Saw the GM walking around and greeting guests today.

Very few rooms actually overlook the pool here, most of the rooms overlook the city and surrounding areas/buildings. I believe only 12 out of the 151 total rooms would overlook the pools, with possibly all of them (or 9 of the 12) being Suites. These would be the X25/X27/X33/X35 rooms, with X being either 8, 9, or 10 on the 8th/9th/10th floor.

Regarding Suites, although they have a generous amount of Suites with 31 of their 151 total rooms being Suites, my guess is that there are only 8 "Standard Select Suites" at this property (the Metropolitan Suites). The majority of the Suites at this hotel (19 of them) are St Regis Suites which are 1000 Sq Ft and my guess is that SPG Plats aren't upgraded into these, or at least the hotel certainly isn't required to upgrade Plats into these Suites.
