Receive Starpoints or credit for declining housekeeping.

See the Starwood Green Choice Program Description & FAQ for details.

Green Choice options, awarded at check out for each night you decline housekeeping services (except day of departure) :
North America & Europe/Middle East
500 Starpoints, at participating Sheraton, Westin, Luxury Collection, Le Méridien, St. Regis and W locations.
250 Starpoints at participating Aloft, Element and Four Points by Sheraton locations.
Or $5 USD (amount may change based on location/region) voucher at participating food and beverage outlets within the hotel.
Latin America
Participating hotels provide a 250 Starpoint option or $5 Food & Beverage option only
Asia Pacific
Participating hotels provide a 250 Starpoint option only.

The maximum number of Green Choice nights allowed is determined by each hotel, but is normally 3 consecutive nights. For longer stays, after housekeeping on the 4th night, you can usually then have another 3 consecutive Green Choice nights.

Is this a chain-wide change to the 250 points for MAGC option or just this property?

Something just came to my mind. Is MAGC a brand standard for Sheraton(incl Four Points) and Westin? The others are free to join?

First time hearing hotels offering different points for taking part...

During long stays, I've been told that they require service to be provided at the 5th night. I have to agree - MAGC credits for all the other nights, but at least making sure the room isn't a disaster for the housekeeping staff when a guest finally checks out.

Is there a process glitch that is causing this or have we just been unlucky with multiple hotels?
Same problem here lately with the LM Galleria in Dallas and the Westin Atlanta Airport. Not sure why, but they've at least been willing to go back and credit.

Last I remember, 250 points is only for aLoft and maybe Element properties. Check with SPG, but that doesn't seem right.

I've been taking the strategy of reserving a 2 double bed room when staying for a week and using make a green choice. Sleep in one bed the first two nights and the other bed the second two nights. Just hang your towel up after you shower and you have at least 2-3 spare in the room.

Not a bad deal for an extra 1500-2000pts.

Interesting. So you change the sheets on your bed at home every other day?

Nope, but there's nothing like getting into a freshly made bed every day. Doing what I said gives you about 50% of that effect while still getting the green choice points. I do fully understand that i'm being the opposite of green by flip flopping beds if I'm in a 2 double room. Defeats the purpose I suppose.

Making the beds is only part of green rooming. There's toiletries to replace, towels to change, cleaning fluid to use, electricity to consume, and more. So no need to feel guilty.

I myself choose Queens when available just to be nicer to the housekeeper. (Making a King bed is not easy!) Not Singles, though; I'm not THAT nice.

Hi petec88,

We have an update on your inquiry.

When we rolled the Make A Green Choice program in Asia Pacific, one of the feedback we have received from the majority of our guests is that housekeeping services like making the bed, replenishing drinking water + bathroom amenities & having trash removed were important. As such, we have altered our program to continue to provide these services and at the same time, adjusted the Starpoints reward accordingly.

Thus for AP hotels that are participating in the program, they will be required to provide only 250 Starpoints as the reward.

If that is what is included, I'm wondering what's left now for housekeeping not to do !

Just a couple of questions for clarification :
1) Is this in place of, rather than an addition to, the regular 500-point option ?
2) The MAGC T&Cs (see, for example here and here) specifically offer only the 500-point option at participating Sheraton, Westin, Luxury Collection, Le Méridien, St. Regis and W locations. Will they be updated to reflect the new "YMMV by region" offer, to ensure we won't be getting any ranty "I didn't get my full MAGC points as promised by the T&Cs " posts ?

The regular option in Asia Pacific properties will be 250 Starpoints, regardless of branding.

2) The MAGC T&Cs (see, for example here and here) specifically offer only the 500-point option at participating Sheraton, Westin, Luxury Collection, Le Méridien, St. Regis and W locations. I'm more than happy to put forth the suggestion.

I've been running into the issue at multiple properties where you request MAGC at the front desk at check in only to return to your room on subsequent nights to find the room made up and no MAGC Voucher.

I checked into Sheraton on Dock Street in Philadelphia this week and made the request Monday night. I get home tuesday after work and had no voucher and the bed was made up. I call the front desk and ask them to make sure I'm participating in MAGC. Get home Wednesday after work, no voucher, bed made. Thursday morning, I have one Voucher, which should have been my third.

Took the voucher to front desk and told them I should have three of these and to make sure I get the 1500 points as I've now asked 3x to participate in the program.

We'll see what happens...

Why is it so hard?

I'd estimate that in 1 of 4 stays where I do MAGC, the points don't post, and I need to chase them down. And typically, when I do check out, I remind them to make sure my Plat / MAGC points post. And yet inevitably something goes wrong...

Are there magic words I need to say?

I guess it depends on the staff at the hotel level since points posting is generated by the property.

I agree. What was listed is exactly what is done during housekeeping. Did I miss out something here?

I doesn't look like a specific brand standard, some properties choose not to participate.
