Not really fond memories for me. It was not a great hotel and I only stayed there for SPG credits and because it was generally quite cheap. I miss the LM, but not the Sheraton. But it is sad that SPG is nearly gone from Brussels, with only an Aloft and FP left. But of course there are several Marriott properties.

Article in Dutch, highlight that court may declare bankruptcy on Tuesday 13 Dec. LM experience in mind, do watch out if you still have SPG stays prior to 31 Dec departure from the programme

For some reason I can book a room on points for February 2017.

Good thing I found this thread or else I would have booked the room not knowing.

I don't like the Aloft and I will never stay at another 4 points (this one in particular looks like a dump) so what Marriott hotel would you guys and gals recommend?

I've stayed all properties in BRU and I didn't rate the Sheraton any higher than the Aloft or the 4P. The lounge was also nothing to shout about. Still a pity to see it go.

Is there still a Sheraton at BRU airport?

Yes I stayed there recently. It's fine, except that you have to pass through a military checkpoint to get to the hotel. So it's not a very good option if you are working in the city or surrounding area. It's pretty much only good for airport travelers or conferences where everyone stays inside for the whole conference.

Bankruptcy official since 11am this morning

So that's it - the beginning of the end of Sheraton Brussels. Two receivers have been appointed by the court immediately.
French newspaper article for those interested:

Not the best Sheraton brand property in the world. But staffs have been doing a great job in making a medicore property acceptable. It is also nice to be upgraded to one of the apartments upstairs during your stay.

Anyway, it will all be history now...

Staying here now and was told that they're shutting down tomorrow.

Following the bankruptcy of SBH SPRL, the operator of the Sheraton Brussels Hotel, the property has been forced to close. The hotel will close as of 12 noon on 14th December 2016.

The forced closure of the hotel is due to the financial situation of the operating company and is not related to the Sheraton brand.

Sheraton has successfully managed the hotel from the day of opening in 1973. In 2009 Sheraton signed a long-term management contract with SBH SPRL. Hotel management are now working with all current and future clients to secure alternative accommodation in the city. We understand the impact on our valued and loyal guests and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Thanks for the update Miguel - I've updated the thread title accordingly.

BTW, welcome to FT and the SPG forum. ^

IMHO, bankruptcy is the best thing that could've happened to this place. Try finding a working outlet not from the Marshall Plan in your room. Wasn't happening. Hope Sheraton is able to take ownership and make it into a place people would actually want to stay. The location is prime, but this property was in dire need of overhaul for years and years; recent lobby re-model notwithstanding.

I guess there were no 4 pm late check out requests on the last day. :p

I'm guessing, and it's just a guess, that the hotel will stay closed for over a year to age out the employee contracts. Then perhaps a renovation and then maybe in 2019 or 2020 a new hotel. Or they could mow the whole building down.
