Visited the W Hong Kong a couple days back, just to check it out. I think the previous posters have covered it pretty well. It is a nice place, good service, but the views from the room are mostly blah, this is not the view. However, up on the 73-76th floor where the spa and gym are, some incredible views, especially from relaxation and treatment rooms and the vitality pool. The vitality pool has "seats" facing the window, so one can relax with the amazing view. Also got a tour of the 76th floor 25 meter outdoor pool, still under construction. The view from up there is stunning.

Unfortunately, the ICC next door pretty much blocks the head-on view of HK island. For that, we'll have to wait for the RC to open, and that's for another forum.

One funny reaction we got is that Mrs. Pickles would comment to all the staffers how much nicer this W is relative to our previous experiences (mostly in the New York City Ws, which are complete dumps), and they were all very surprised to hear that.

Thanks for the report and nice pics. Sorry to hear of the opening days kinks, hopefully worked out by the time I get there.

Has anyone checked out the Living Room scene? Or any of the other bars? Over the weekend? Or is it still early days in terms of expecting much of a crowd? How are the signature cocktails?

Just stayed at the W Hotel yesterday... Pretty nice hotel and service was very good.. seems like all the staff are all trying quite hard to please... The aircon in the rooms were freezing, but being HK, that is to be expected... The rooms and decor were very nice and modern..

Unfortunatly the location was a bit off from tsim sha tsui and wasn't exactly convenient.. had to take a cab everywhere (except going to the airport as the hotel was right above the airport express station)... tried both restaurants in the hotel and the food itself was not bad.. but the prices were pretty high.. the two meal prices combined were more than what I paid for the room... haha.. I think with the shopping mall right next door, unless you really want to eat in the hotel, there are a lot more variety and cheaper options inside the mall...

would probably stay here again coz I like the W style.. but for location, you can't beat the Intercontinental and Peninsula, although they do cater to a different crowd...

Fly Me To The Moon

Have checked into W Hong Kong for a 4-night stay. As a Platinum and paying a corporate rate of HKD 2150/night, got upgraded to a Fantastic Suite for the duration of the stay. The suite is at the end of the corridor, room XX01. Bathroom is completely enclosed, rather than the open design of the regular rooms. The best part is that full-size (120ml) bottles of the Bliss products are offered. One set on the vanity, and another partial set (shampoo, conditioner, bath gel) at the bathtub. There is a separate living room and bedroom. View is not of Hong Kong Island, but rather of the container yard.

I must say that the in-room breakfast menu is one of the most expensive I have seen anywhere. HKD 80 for fresh juice, HKD 65 for 2 slices of toast, etc. Well, for the toast, they do bring a toaster into the room so we could toast the bread right there. I made a note to housekeeping not to remove the toaster for the duration of my stay. Now, I can go downstairs to the supermarket to buy a whole loaf of bread and toast to my own delight!

Overall, a very good hotel, even in soft opening stages. Would definitely stay here (but not eat here) again.

I tried some cocktails with my friends in Living Room, Martini is good, 3 drinks costs about HKD$400 (2 cocktails and 1 soft drinks), served with peanuts.

We are the only one table from 10pm to 11pm, then we decided to change to the Felix, Peninsula HKG by taxi after one hour in Private Room

I stayed at this property earlier this week, and I have to say I absolutely loved it. The decor is as modern and stylish as you might expect, the in-room electronics are a nice touch and the staff really try their best to make sure you enjoy your stay in Hong Kong. As a Platinum member, I received an upgrade to a Fantastic Suite, which was exactly as captured in Moomba's pictures above.

After checking in, I was escorted to my room by one of the front desk staff. On the way, I was told that they have a number of rooms that right now are set up to be shown off to guests, so you can actually ask to see the different room types. Also, I was told that there are two decor schemes for the Fantastic Suite. The one pictured in Moomba's photos is designed by an Australian designer, while the other (which I did not see) was apparently designed by a Japanese designer.

The hotel's location is actually more convenient if you'll be spending time Hong Kong side than Kowloon side, thanks to the path of the Tung Chung MTR line. The MTR makes the W especially convenient for anyone heading to offices at IFC.

As for taxis, you can ask for a taxi card from the hotel staff. It basically says W Hotel, Kowloon Station, etc in English and Chinese. With this, in the worst case you'll end up at the Airport Express drop off and make your way through the mall and up to the hotel from there. Getting back to the hotel late at night from Central should cost around HK$80 including the toll for the tunnel, and a taxi from Langham Place in Mong Kok should cost around HK$25.

Oh, I should add that on Saturday night, the Living Room was actually decently busy. More than one member of the staff suggested I check it out, but I had other plans. Apparently their "gentle nudging" has been working though.

Am here now, got Fantastic Suite. Loving everything so far, bar the location which is its only downside. Then again taxis aren't expensive. A fair few taxi drivers also knew the W. Oh and no HK island skyline views of course. WET opened yesterday on the 76th floor and the views out there are gorgeous! It'd be even better when they finally start operating the bar up there (they're still waiting on their liquour license for that particular bar).

I also had the room designed by DNA like Moomba and CXYYZ. Forgot the name of the theme. The other design is by a Japanese designer, called Glamourous - so if you want to check out the other scheme just request for a 'Glamourous' room next time.

Living Room was fairly happening last 2 nights. Great cocktails, and I loved the DJ on Friday night. He had a v eclectic selection, even indie which is in some ways rather un-W but I get bored of the typical W house music sometimes! The one on Sat nite is more techno. They close rather early though, about 1-2am but that'd be about the right time to head off to certain Hollywood Rd establishments. Managed to chat with a few W staff, taken care of v well by the W Insider - she'd even organised a bday cupcake for me complete with candle. ^

Will post full update with pics in my TR (and link it here of course), but in summary a WoWtastic experience! ^

Oh and as for the Sweet Dreams Pillows menu... they are in the process of getting it ready. Remember they're still in soft opening phase.

edit: been also told that the soft opening phase will be prolonged for abit so the launch party has been delayed for a while - at this stage they don't have any real idea of when that's going to be. Heard some of the plans for the launch party, unfortunately I've been specifically told not to reveal 'em publicly but suffice to say - it'd be the most glamourous, flashiest, and naughtiest W launch party ever.

No, it's not on the same side - but it's fairly easy to get there via MTR. With that said, it's not quite as easy as hotels with locations in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui or in Central.

To get to the convention centre from the W, get on the MTR at Kowloon station (it's in the same complex as the W) and take the train across the harbour to Hong Kong station. At Hong Kong station, you transfer over to the Island line and catch the train over to Wan Chai station. There is an enclosed walkway between Hong Kong station and Central station and you never exit the paid area of the station, but it does take a few minutes.
