With apologies, the W response seems pretty disingenuous with the following W RETREAT properties STILL listed in the W Hotel Directory:

W RETREAT & Spa Viques Island, Puerto Rico

W Kanai RETREAT, Rivera Maya, Mexico, opening Dec 2019

W RETREAT Sanya, Haitang Bay, China

W RETREAT Koh Samui, Thailand

W RETREAT Phuket - Phang Nga Bay, Thailand, opening Jan 2018

W RETREAT & Spa Playa Conchal, Costa Rica, opening July 2019

Thus far, there has been no other drop of the Retreat designation as far as I can tell. And too many other W Retreat properties continue to use that designation even now.

W Hotels are lying. What the heck?

Hello - any recent visitors to the property? Am particularly keen to get a hold of the restaurant menus and cannot find any online. Contemplating the half or full board option ($140 and $200 pp per day respectively).

Stayed there in January, IMO not worth it unless you are heavy eater, also many of the options in restaurants have surcharges for hb/fb. We were not spending more than 150$ pp on food for full dinner + light snacks (pizza etc.) during the day. Also as plat you get 20% discount in restaurants (on everything, beverages and shisha too) while for hb/fb you pay same price as everyone else.

Thank you SO much. We both are heavier eaters at night but not day so we were contemplating HB given we could have a late breakfast. Do you recall rough pricing for some lunch items? The incremental $60 PP for inclusive lunch seems a bit much to me if we just get a sandwich or pizza or something.

IIRC most of the lunch items were in the 15-25$ price range, I have just pulled up the folio and our charges for lunch were in the 60-70 range which includes 22% tax and beverages.

For most expensive dinner we paid $400 (tax included) which included 2 kobe steaks and a bottle of wine. On average we paid around $300 for dinner (all prices are for two persons). Keep in mind that this is post tax and with drinks, your $140 HB will turn into $172 after taxes and doesn't include beverages.

Btw. the most cost effective way to drink is the room minibar 0.375 bottles are for $60 and mixers are free

We were there just last week. I don't think the HB or FB is worth it for plats. As plat, you can have the breakfast amenity then get 20% off all other food. I don't think we paid over $100 pp for dinner. Our lunches incl drinks were definitely under $50 pp. Food and drinks are expensive there, but not nearly as bad as I was expecting!

If booking on points, would there be a reason to stay at W instead of St.Regis? Both cost the same so I was going to book at St.Regis unless there is a reason I should consider W.

The only one I can think of is the incidentals cost, F&B at W is slightly cheaper plus they have 20% discount for plats, so you'd end up saving quite significant amount on dining vs. the StR. The seaplane transfer is also cheaper as the flight is shorter.

If that's not a big concern for you then I'd go with the StR as it's a newer and nicer property (although the W is really awesome resort too).

I visited the StR when it opened, and am interested in going back but also debating if I should try the W. Have you been to both?

Also, does the 20% apply to alcohol as well, or is it just food?

Anyone happen to know the other minibar prices? I saw a restaurant menu that had Heineken at $15 whereas at StR it was $11...curious if it is also $15 in the minibar.

Haven’t been to StR yet, planning my visit for next February. The 20% discount is valid on alcohol as well, if I recall correctly the only exclusion was shisha (priced at $25 so not a big deal).

The I don’t remember beer prices but absolutely best value for alcohol were the 0.375l bottles of alcohol from minibar priced at $60 with taxes included (Jack Daniels, Russian Standard, Beefeater), they also came with free mixers (different juices and soft drinks).

Thanks for the update! Curious to see what availability looks like next week when things go live.

I have only stayed at the W but if it matters. I have heard the reef at the W is much better then the StR. I can confirm the snorkeling and diving just off the island is as good as anywhere I have been in the world. I went for some dives off the boat that were consider world class spots which weren’t really much better then when you see 20 meters from the beach just deeper. I have read elsewhere that good snorkeling at the StR requires a boat ride.

I have take a look on the menus of both resorts and the prices are nearly the same but the selection is much more better at St.Regeis than the W.
And I thought the 20% discount for plat will also be at St. Regis.
If I am wrong then you are right and the cost at W would be significant cheaper.
