50% off single award stay promo for Platinum members (merged thread)

I'm planning my holiday trips and I can't remember when we could start booking with it?

I remember getting it in the mail but reading about it much earlier on flyertalk, unfortunately searching for 50PER doesn't help me.

Anybody?

My records indicate 30 November 2006. I booked a 10 night stay at the Le Meridian, Cancun last September for 80000 points. When the promo came out on November 3oth, I called the platinum desk and they rebooked the reservation and credited my account with 40,000 points. Nice savings.

I believe you would have been credited back with 30,000 points as the 50% off would not extend to the 5th night free.

I thought it was only good for up to 5 continuous nights at the full point rate. Thus you would have to use 50,000 points for 5 nights (with no 5th night free) and get back 25,000 points for a real savings of 15,000 points. The most you could have saved was 20,000 points if you stayed 4 nights.

I believe the limit was 30 nights. We stayed 10 or 11 nights. My information was taken from my SPG statement.

Let's just hope that *wood sees fit to gift us with this promo (or something similar) again this year. I'd hate to jinx it by anticipating that this is expected. If I'm not mistaken, this was offered only to Plats - I could be wrong on that.

my crystal ball thinks they are going to run this promotion again. my tarot cards are a bit more inconclusive but are also leaning toward a "go."

This promo is not only a great reward for Starwood's Platinum members but a great incentive for us to use up starpoints within a specific time frame.

I believe the last year was limited to a Category 4 hotel. Where would you go in 08 if Starwood provided this reward once again?

I'm already booked for three nights in February at the Westin Dawn Beach in St. Maarten...I've got my fingers crossed that they run this so I can save 15,000points!

Seemed a reasonable enough question by richiezc to me. And he/she bumped an old thread, rather than start a new one. ^

So IMHO, no need whatsoever to get acerbic at the poster.
