Proper tips for *starwood room service.
When ordering food in room service they charge over 17% service charge plus a delivery charge already. Should you still tip the person that brings the food to you? And if yes what is the proper tip...

tipping is still a good thing
While I know that I just added $15 to my overall bill for chicken fingers, adding another $5 for the tip does not bother me a bit. After all, you are going to get it in points and for me, double with my AMEX SPG.
Bottom line, I always tip around 10%-15% of the bill.

Hmmm...tipping...I'm really fuzzy on tipping overseas especially in Asis. I go to Sheraton Taipei for reward stay and am not sure how much to tip per day to the maids or even if I should be tipping (since Asia dont really tip). I usually leave something on the last nite but not really sure what the correct protocol is... anyway can shed some light? what's a normal amount to leave in a hotel in asia per night?

without dragging this into a "tipping is an evil american practice that is poisoning the rest of the world" thread, you've answered your own question by saying that Asians don't really tip. the only places in Asia where i've ever experienced a tipping expectation from the person providing the service is a) for massages and b) in certain casinos.

i had tipped them 300-500baht before , but if it is too much they put it back on the table and think i accidentally forget it on the bed...

You've been brainwashed if you believe that you are "better off" by spending more cash because you receive points back. It's a fractional return of your money even in best case scenarios. A dollar not spent remains the best rewards program in the world.

OK...maybe I'm cheap...but if a hotel adds a $2-5 delivery charge and then adds a 15-20% service charge (I.E. Tip) on my room service order I personally fell that is enough and do not add yet another tip.

Being CHEAP, I agree! If the "tip" is built into the bill, I am not going to add to it.

I don't either, except in extraordinary circumstances (such as a meeting with lots of demands) or the rare experience of remarkable service. My hope (usually) is that the service staff actually receives the gratuity that the hotel has added, though I've never asked.

Plus, even though a tip is already provided many servers do little to earn it other than simple delivery. Like unwrap the plastic wrap from dishes and glasses. Open a bottle of wine. Earn the tip!

I seldom order room service. But if tip and delivery and gratuity and service fee and whatever else are added, they ain't gettin' nothin' more from me.

I usually don't add a tip for room service if it's already tacked on the bill.
