Not much of a change from what Starwood was already doing - actively selling any owned properties and continuing management.

Just a change in the ownership of the underlying real estate. No change in the management or Westin flag. This happens all the time and isn't of interest to the customers.

Good to know that the Westin flag will still fly strong at this property. Thanks for clarifying.

We stayed at the Westin Maui Resort & Spa on the special 5-night rate where you get the Avis rental car and do a timeshare presentation. Great deal. The room was just average but the pool area was one of the best I've seen and so was the beach. The ocean here is pretty stunning. They have a great waterslide (best I've seen at a resort) and its a lovely setting for just hanging out.

Some negatives for us was the $15 charge for the beach chairs and the lack of chairs with shade at the pool. The few with umbrellas cost extra. We were able to find shade in the early morning (from the building) and in the late afternoon, but not in the middle of the day. We adapted.

I take it these stays don't earn stay/night credit? So far, seems like a 'no'. I already knew it wouldn't earn any points, but spg seem very generous about stay credit (even on awards and promotional nights).

No, these are considered package deals and aren't eligible for stay/night credit.

Reviving this thread - any updates on this property? Heard there may have been construction, noise, and other issues? Will be visiting early December and deciding between this, Hyatt Regency, and the Ritz Carlton.

It is really odd how dead this thread is. I was hoping for a more recent review as well!

Any signs of construction? Was there in July, had a great time, but was told they’d be starting construction/rénovation “soon.”

Thinking about returning in 2H 2019, but if the place is a construction site, would look elsewhere.

The marriott app says ongoing renovations starting March 2019 9am-5pm daily, with possible closure of some pool areas March 1 to July 31.
