I'm home.

I have 1 last question. Should I also receive the 500 point Plat bonus?

This is such a great property, I wouldn't let the slight chance that I might not get upgraded or a complimentary bag of walnuts, influence my decision of whether or not to stay here!

Heck, I'd take their lowest ROH room here, over most other types of accomodations on the island.

That's a ringing endorsement! Not that I don't value the opinions of PremEx and the other platinum members, just wondering if there are any opinions out there from non-plat SPGers (I am only a gold).

Well, for what it's worth, I've only ever stayed there as a SPG Gold.

Haven't had the pleasure as a Platinum yet.

I had the same suite. It was great.

I was suppose to be there for 4 days then 4 days at the Grand Waialea (sp), but the day we were suppose to leave was Sept 11th so we were stuck at Princeville for 3 extra days and just one day in Maui.

Not a bad place to be stranded.

I'm just a SPG Gold. Had a jr. suite booked and was upgraded to the executive suite (Rack rate of $1800). This was a great hotel all around, though I do agree they nickle and dime you (and $15 you!) on the phone calls and parking.

I've read so many messages that state people getting upgraded to Jr or Executive Suites at this property, but I think most of them have been from Platinum people. I am going to Princeville in a few weeks for my honeymoon and am Gold right now. Any thoughts on what my chances of an upgrade might be? I believe we have a partial ocean view right now, but of course would love a bump up. Should I call the hotel to confirm my reservation, mention it's my honeymoon and ask about a possible upgrade, or would I be better to ask about it upon check in? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated!

I love the Princeville -- one of my favorite hotels -- went into "town" for food, however. Food at hotel was great, just a bit pricey for me. Staff is wonderful, location can't be beat. (Of course, if I want beach I just walk down the hill to La Jolla Shores so I'm a bit biased)

Princeville Hotel, Hawaii - closing 2008 [Master Thread]

Decided to add a 3 day stay at Princeville to a week at the Orchid - now I wish I had stayed where I was!

Arrived at the hotel to find several pieces of construction were underway. Was woken by noise at 6:40a yesterday and 8:00a today. Asked the front office manager to do something about it - she said she would look into it and get back to me but never did. Mind you she is working 12 hour days on the valet parking stand.

The work is scheduled to continue until Dec 20th

Of the 53 nights I have stayed at Starwood so far this year as a Plat - this is the only place I had to ask for an upgrade.

I have stayed here twice before in the last 5 years and it was perfect, which is why I came back - now it seems complacent and ineffectual.

I would like to second Sprouts recommendation. I also had a negative experience at the Princeville. I took my wife for an anniversary present. Not only were we not upgraded, but we were given a room with two double beds to celebrate! In my opinion, they upgrade and emphasize past guests preferentially over SPG status.

I found management to be rather complacent and while they would act interested enough to get you to leave, they had little intent to truly solve the problem. Clearly the resort is beautiful and some/most of the employees are excellent. However, for a resort of this caliber, almost all of the employees (especially management) should be exceptional.

I doubt I will ever return.

I've spoken personally to the GM, Ms. Hoen, after the last time somebody complained about the Princeville, and she assured me that Platinum upgrades are intact at this property.

I would suggest that if your having any problems with the staff or management at the property that you contact Ms. Hoen directly.

Princeville Hotel, Hawaii - closing 2008 [Master Thread]

Just came back from a 7 nights in Kauai, 2 nights at the Hyatt and 5 at the Princeville
I used Starpoints for the 5 nights at the Princeville, and was confirmed into a
partial-ocean view room.

I inquired about an upgrade during the check-in process, but was told that an upgrade to a Jr. Suite was only available for an extra $100/night. Having stayed in both a regular room and Jr. Suite during my previous visits to the Princeville, I had no qualms about the additional fee, though I had hoped for a complimentary upgrade even though I'm only a Gold Member.

I asked if they were still offering an amenity for returning guests, but was told that the box of postcards had been discontinued. Other tangible cutbacks included artifical flowers in the rooms and public areas, and the conversion of the Cinema to Starwood Timeshare Offices.

Though the resort was still magnificent, small cutbacks here and there have depreciated the grandeur.

Most of the staff provided impeccable service, with the valets standing out above the rest.

However, I had one problem with the room that I could not get resolved to my satisfaction. During the second night of my stay, I found a cockroach in the living area of the room. Although I had never encountered a cockroach in my previous stays in the Princeville, I knew they were common
in Hawaii, and disposed of it. The next day, Mrs. TraveltheWorld found a cockroach while sitting on the couch. Again, I disposed of it, and informed the front desk. The front desk was rather curt,
quickly dismissing the problem, but did promise they would have housekeeping look into it.

Over the course of the stay, I would find 2 more live cockroaches, and 2 dead ones under a couch. I complained once more, but could not even find a sympathetic ear. While I had little problems with the cockroaches, Mrs. TraveltheWorld refused to sit in the living area after day 3.

While the cockroaches certainly marred the stay, overall they stay was a pleasant one. I think I'd be inclined to stay at the Hyatt the next time I was in Kauai though.

Sorry about the cockroaches. While in the Philippines, I had a room, that after the lights were turned out, the walls and ceilings seemed to come alive with the pulsating movements of the d*** things. My wife, like yours, was not amused.

I've only had great experiences at the Princeville. I've only been there as a platinum, so I've always been upgraded free of charge. Perhaps Rayavadee in Thailand is the only more breathtaking location in the Starwood family (IMHO, also, Ive never been to Bora Bora).
