Upgrading help?

I'm not sure if this is the right place or not, but...

I got an awesome brg rate at the keauhou in may for a mountain view room. On the reservation confirmation there's the upgrade your room to ocean view for $50 button. Would it be a good idea to do this online, or would it be better to ask/pay for an upgrade when we get to the hotel? Ultimately, I would like to see if it's possible to pay for an upgrade to an ocean front (anniversary and all...), but I don't know which is a better way to go about it.

Any advice/input would be very appreciated!

Call or email the hotel directly and ask if they have an offer for oceanfront. If you wait until you arrive, then they might not have any available. If you have elite status, let them know since it might weigh into their decision about what to offer you.

At this property, mountain view = parking lot view. If that matters do check out the upgrade options.

I was at this hotel recently. Met a couple there who told me they were on a priceline stay but that had asked for ocean view and it only cost them $20 to upgrade.

I wonder what will happen now?!
I just made a reservation today for a two day stay beginning June 30. No problems, had to transact by telephone since I was seeking an upgrade on points. Only upgrade was to an ocean view for an extra 1500 pts/night. No other room/suite upgrade available at this time.

It appears that the change in ownership scheduled for June 1 doesn't change the ability to make reservations on points.

Does anyone know what the resort fee includes here, or what the alternate Platinum amenity is?

This fee isn't even mentioned on their Announcements page, but it is mentioned here on their hotel-specific website:

Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa now charges a daily Resort Charge posted to each guestroom to offer our guests an array of generous amenities and services for a nominal all-inclusive fee of $15.62 tax inclusive which includes the following benefits and amenites:
  • High-speed internet access in guest room
  • Self-parking for one (1) vehicle
  • Unlimited local and 1-800 telephone calls
  • Up to 30 minutes of long distance telephone calls (Inter-Island and Continental U.S.) per day
  • Use of Kona Trolley (9:00am–8:00pm on a rotational schedule; stops at Kona Country, Keauhou Shopping Center; Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort, Magic Sands Beach, Ali'i Gardens Market Place, Coconut Grove, St. Michael's Church, Historic Kailua Village and Kona Commons Shopping Center)
  • Two (2) Manta Punch drinks per stay (choice of alcoholic or non-alcoholic)
  • High speed wireless internet access on the ocean view deck (lobby level)

This charge will be billed directly to all guests, at a Daily Rate of $15.62, tax inclusive, per room per day. RESORT CHARGE RATE AND INCLUSIONS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.
Note that the two drinks are per stay -- even though you are charged the fee nightly.

Do give it a try again tonight and let me know if the IT issue persists.

Is there something they're not telling us?
I'm trying to get 5 C&P nights in January 2012, but it looks like the entire 2012 calendar is not available for C&P redemptions while nearly every day of 2011 is still available. Any idea when they might re-open C&P redemptions for 1/2012?

Below is the response from an email I sent to the hotel inquiring about Plat amenities. No amenity offered.

Sorry for the false alarm, I posted in the wrong thread. I haven't seen any C&P at this property either.

Yeap, I stayed last Apr, and offered free valet as plat status.. They explained what are included in resort fee like self-parking. And, then explained free valet to plat amenity.. But, it might be changed since my stay..

Thanks, OWT. I'll hit 'em up for valet, since we'll have a car. Not much of a plat amenity, but at least it's something.
