Sheraton Aruba Resort, Spa & Casino

What hotel is being reflagged as the Sheraton?

I think it used to be the Wyndham...

Konsultant May 20, 2006 11:50 pm

This is a nice addition to the Sheraton brand. Anyone care to speculate if it will be Cat 3 or Cat 4?

Renard May 21, 2006 1:02 am

This is awesome news....a lack of a starwood in Aruba was a big hole for starwood. From the looks of the pics on the website it is definitely the old wyndham.

I'd be thrilled if it were a 3!!! I could go either way really....but I think they'll be conservative and go 4.

This resort and casino does not participate in Starwood Preferred Guest. It is being operated as an independent property and not a part of the Sheraton brand.

Just canceled a stay that I booked a week before Christmas. The Marriott will get my biz (or vacation in this case), as it does honor their program and has promised a nice upgrade.

Renard May 23, 2006 1:43 am

Wow....this is not good news at all :( Marriott has some good choices there though...and the hyatt there is great! :D

Hopefully they'll add this disclaimer on the webpage for this hotel. It is very important information. I think it is typically there for the few 'holdouts' to spg.

Renard May 23, 2006 2:04 am

Go To this site for more info about how it will become a WESTIN someday ...hopefully then it will be in SPG ..... http://www.arubawyndham.com/

"The Wyndham Aruba Resort, Spa & Casino has been transformed to the Aruba Resort, Spa & Casino. Belfonti Capital Partners, LLC has hired Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide to manage the property as the Aruba Resort, Spa & Casino.

“We have hand picked Starwood Hotels & Resorts to manage this resort for their well known management skills and tradition of superior service and we are committed to delivering an exceptional holiday experience for our guests at the Aruba Resort, Spa & Casino. We as well as Starwood Hotels & Resorts will to honor all current booking with Wyndham Aruba Resort, Spa & Casino, and we look forward to exceeding their expectations for comfort, service and atmosphere.” Michael Belfonti, Chairman

We will soon be announcing an exciting re-launch of the resort in late 2006 or early 2007 as a member of the Westin Hotels and Resorts family, which will offer a unique lifestyle destination resort. Until then, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide will be dedicated to providing your guests with the ultimate resort experience."

Perhaps there's hope yet. I'm always disappointed whenever I find out about a *wood property that is not an SPG team player. It's like... a Nordstrom that doesn't accept the Nordstrom card. OK, maybe not quite, but I'm low on analogies tonight. ;)

edited to differentiate Starwood from SPG

Fly

Automatically? No. But, they will participate once they become branded as a Westin hotel.

If it didn't exist before, it does now.

"Special Condition
This hotel does not participate in the Starwood Preferred Guest program. For more details, please see the Starwood Preferred Guest Terms and Conditions."

However, it is not explicitly mentioned in the T&Cs.

Seems odd to me that the title of the page on starwoodhotels.com is...
"Global Conextions Palm Beach Hotels: Aruba Resort, Spa and Casino - Hotel Rooms at gx.com"

I had never heard of Global Conextions. Can someone shed some light on what this Raleigh-based Starwood subsidiary really does? (I hope their outdated website is not a reflection of their current "state-of-the-art products.")
