Hmm, I should have read this before I initiated the transfer of my SPG points to my mom's AA account. Is it still not possible to do that (different names on accounts)?

If the names on the accounts are different, AA will definitely reject the transfer. SPG cannot do an airline transfer follow-up until the 14th day has passed, however.

Ah, thanks. Such a PITA! So how long does it take to get the points back in my SPG account?

Took me just over a month! That was with a lot of emails to my plat concierge.

Should take about 5 days or so.

Over a month even with Plat? I don't have any status, so good luck to me!

So after 2 online chat sessions asking for the follow-up, I was told at first that I'd loose all the points since the names don't match (what?). The second rep told me to check back in 10 business days and they will be doing some research. And it's up to AA to release the points back. Sigh...

I just did a transfer this week and it took 3 days as well. Perhaps the start of a pattern with SPG and transfers to AA? I was pleasantly surprised to say the least.

I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask, but are there ever promotions for transferring Starpoints to AA miles (i.e. better conversion rate than 20,000 -> 25,000)? I'm thinking to convert some points to miles, but didn't know if there are any promotions to keep an eye out for. I don't need the miles anytime soon.

A question for Starwood Lurker, I initiated a transfer of points from my Mom's SPG account to her AA account and then realized her SPG account has her middle initial and her AA account doesn't. The first and last names as well as the addresses on both accounts are the same. Will the transfer be rejected? TIA!

An update: The request was made on a Tuesday night and the points arrived in my mom's AA account on Sunday. I don't know whether the "missing" middle initial affected the transfer time.

Haven't seen one in the past couple of years, so I'm assuming it doesn't exist or is very rare.

I don't think they check for middle initials, but AA is a better resource of this kind of detail than I will ever be.

Thank you William. AA said that Starwood would reject the transfer so we shall see what happens!

That's too funny. Starwood is sending the points over to them, not the other way around, so it will be AA that rejects it, not us.

But, yes, I guess we'll see.

Dear lurker,

I need 25000 AA miles to do an award booking. My friend help me to transfer his SPG points to my AA account one month ago. But I did not receive it. I have two questions:

1. Is it against rule to transfer SPG points to other people's AA account?
2. If it is OK, what should we do now?
