25% Off Starpoint Redemption

I received an e-mail today with the following:

Platinum Exclusive - 25% Off Starpoint Redemption

Thank you for voting us Freddie's hotel "Program of the Year" six years in a row. In recognition of your loyalty and support, you can receive 25% off stays through August 31, 2005! Simply plan your trip at SPG.com, then call your Customer Contact Center and mention award ID "Fred."

It also appears you have to book by May 21st.

Anyone who is Platinum in SPG can take advantage of this offer. The call to action is to call the Platinum Concierge line and mention award code FRED.

Wow... great deal. I'll have to re-book my big award stay in a few weeks.

Regrettably, as far as I am aware, only the Platinum members are being included in this year's "Thank You" surrounding the Freddie awards.

Interesting that this mirrors a previous summer offer, open to everyone, of 25% off summer award bookings made during a specific week.

Last year the offer came in July:

Great Platinum Promotion! Wish it did apply to Cat 1 & 2s Weekends and 5-for-4, but it's still a nice deal, IMHO. Thanks Starwood!

Simply plan your trip at SPG.com, then call your Customer Contact Center and mention award ID "Fred."
Starwood Lurker...does the above mean we can claim a normal award via the Web Site and then call to get our 25% back into our accounts?

Along the same line...is it possible to get the 25% credited to your account on existing award reservations, or do we have to cancel and rebook?

Thanks.

Question 1, no. The call to action is to call the Platinum Concierge line that is listed on the back of your membership card and book and redeem using FRED as the award id.

Question 2, This wasn't meant to be an offer to cancel and re-book to wedge your existing plans into something that was already booked. However, I think we all realize that this will - in fact - be happening. In that event, the reservation would not necessarily have to be canceled and re-booked, and in some cases, this would not be a possibility if the hotel has since sold out. Better to call the Platinum Concierge line and ask them to cancel the award, not the reservation, and replace the award with a new one at 25% off.

I realize that this means that Question 1 can probably be done after all, but it seems to be a needless extra step, no?

Sincerely,
