Using points to upgrade cash and points room award
Is it possible to upgrade from a regular room booked with a cash and points room award to something better using more points?
I know with a free night (using points only) award or paid reservation you can upgrade a room starting with 1,000 or 1,500 points (depending on category) but can you do this with a cash and points award - i.e., 1,600 points + $30 and then another 1,000 or 1,500 to upgrade to a better room?

Only as an Instant Award at checkin, subject to availability.
A couple of additional notes:
(1) A free night award can be upgraded at booking with additional points at many properties. It isn't an option everywhere.
(2) A paid reservation cannot be upgraded with points more than 5 days before checkin.

more than five days - does it mean at time of booking and up to 5 days before, or does it mean five days or less before the stay?
