Question about redeeming Starpoints for free night.
I tried to redeem a free night at sheraton gateway LAX for 5/26 and was told room unavailable. However when I use the spg researvation or even spedia/orbitz, they do have rooms available. Is it normal?
If that's the case, what is "If we have a guest room available, it's yours" :( |
That's a big complaint about the "If we have a room...it's yours" statement.
According to SPG terms & conditions, a "Standard" type room must be available in order to redeem Starpoints for a normal free night. The hotel can have tons of other types available, and you are outta luck. :( You'll find many old threads here in this forum on this old beef. You might want to call Starwood reservations just to double check. Or I believe you also have the option of using additional Starpoints to confirm a Deluxe or higher category of room. |
redundant post.

PremEx and sk3,
Thanks for your answers. I think It's clear to me now..:) The price for the available room ranges from $159-$270 on spg.com ( sheraton gateway LAX) and I shouldn'ts image getting it for 3k starpoints. :D Maybe most of the 'standard room' were sold on priceline since I saw a couple of winning bids for $35 per night. :( Perhaps I will have to pay extra 1k points for the Westin LAX :) Again, thanks. ls

But all in all, I've been extremely pleased with my ability to book award nights compared to Hilton. That fact and the customer service given to us by the Lurker is the reason I switched allegiances. Maybe you'll get lucky and someone will cancel the room type needed and then you can book the award night. I'd keep trying if it's important. |
I just called starwood and I was told by a spg help desk guy that this hotel did have the rooms available. But he told me the hotel was a category 2(instead of category 1 on spg.com) and I need pay 4000 points for one night. And then he hang up the phone.. :(
This is the first time I have bad experience with starwood csr.. :td: |
