Q. How does one qualify for "Preferred Plus" benefits?

A. By being the primary cardmember for a Starwood American Express card, or by becoming a member of AARP, AAA, or other marketing partner providing complimentary Preferred Plus status. (See, e.g., http://discounts.aarp.org/offer/inde...CategoryId/402)

Q. What are the published incremental benefits of Preferred Plus (i.e., beyond base SPG member benefits)?

A. The incremental benefits are
  • "Upgrades to enhanced rooms at check-in, such as rooms on higher floors or corner rooms. [Footnote: Subject to availability at check-in for the length of the stay, provided the room was not booked through a prepaid third-party channel. Enhanced rooms do not include suites and include rooms on higher floors, rooms with better views, or corner rooms. This benefit is not offered at Aloft(sm) and Element(sm) properties.]"
  • "4 p.m. late checkout, where available. [Footnote: Subject to availability at resort and conference center hotels.]" This benefit is covered in detail in a separate FT thread.

Q. Where can I find these benefits stated on the SPG website?

A. They can be viewed here: https://www.starwoodhotels.com/prefe...ybenefits.html -- Note: If you are not already logged in, you'll be sent to a login page. Once logged in, ignore where you are redirected to, and click the original link again to view your benefits.

Q. Where can I find a list of "resort and conference center hotels" on the SPG website?

A. You can't; it isn't there. However, one of the Starwood representatives has posted (and regularly updates) a list at http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/18920557-post809.html.

has not been updated in over a year but I do not see the property in question on this list of resort/conference center hotels which do not have to honor the guaranteed 4:00 pm checkout. Is the property a new addition and if so, could we get an updated list?

Thanks.

This is contrary to previous posts where only properties listed on the Resorts/Conference property list are allowed to deny a late check out. Would you please confirm?

Alice made an error. Nothing has changed policy-wise or in what actions should be taken.

If someone is denied a 4 PM late check-out and they are Preferred Plus or above and paying an eligible rate, this benefit is not negotiable and she is aware of this now.

If destg will send me his confirmation number via Private Mail here at Flyertalk, I'd like to get the SPG Hotel Coordinators to follow up with the property so this doesn't happen again at The Westin Bellevue, Dresden.

The best answer i got was in the starwood online chat.. I asked there if there is a 4 PM guaranteed latecheckout for + members. And the answer was: there is no gurantee at all. I asked and how about gold or higher? Then the answer was, under circumstances there is... Then i got tired and closed the chat.
That guy there definite needs some training.

I been in 2 spg hotels yet. In 1 i had to argue too for a 2 PM latecheckout. First they whanted 20 EUR for 2 hours..
Then the next day some manager sayed thanks for educating the people at the checkin lol.

This is a continuing problem for Starwood. This benefit is simply not recognized by many Starwood Reps.

Is Preferred Plus dead on American Express USA SPG cards? Preferred Plus status no longer appears (from what I could find) as a benefit on the USA American Express SPG card. I posted a similar question on the American Express thread about a week ago, however there were no responses.

Yes, it still exists. (My DW has it via an Amex SPG Biz card issued earlier this year; her SPG account reflects that pseudo-status.) This benefit was never heavily touted, so the lack of references to it on the Amex side aren't really a change from prior practice.

Hi Beltway, thanks for your response. I've had the consumer USA SPG Card for a few years, and Preferred Plus used to be listed as a benefit. It is not listed anymore; there are benefits mentioned about upgrading to Gold. When reviewing the current AMEX USA SPG business card, there also does not appear to be any mention of Preferred Plus status or benefits.

Perhaps there has been a recent change to the benefits for both consumer and business versions of the USA SPG credit card?

Staying for my first time at a Starwood property this weekend so the only status I have is Preferred Guest Plus from my AMEX. Has anyone ever received a notable benefit for the "enhanced" rooms feature and did asking at checkin make a difference or is this automatically done at checkin? The descriptions of all the rooms where I'm staying sound very similar except that higher levels are charged at a slightly higher rate, but I take it this enhanced benefit would only apply (if there is availability) to rooms of the same cost.

Although upgrades are not a part of being "Preferred Plus", the late check-out is. There are many times that benefit is more important than a better room.

That's not correct. See the wiki for the terms of the enhanced-room upgrade benefit.

I stand corrected... Just don't expect suites, now those are upgrades!

Just got the SPG AMEX last week and my status changed to Preferred Plus. Still odd I can't find an "official benefits" list in the SPG Website. Only perks I'm aware of I've learned from this thread.

When I got my card it was listed in the flyer that came with the card. I believe it's also listed in the phone app.

Just got the SPG Amex several months ago. Didn't notice the Preferred Guest PLUS status on my account until a few days ago. My first stay after receiving the card back in Oct 2015 included an upgrade to lounge access at the Sheraton DFW. I'm guessing that was due to PLUS status. Got lucky first time out, I guess.
