Will SPG C+P still be available after 1 Aug ?
Hi -
I could not find any information on cash + points availability after 8/1. I have seen the award chart, but is there a C+P chart anywhere? And any clue if the availability will be the same? Thanks in advance. |
See: https://frequentmiler.boardingarea.c...rds-good-deal/ As for availability of awards, they have stated all properties will eventually move to the SPG model but who knows how long that will take to fully implement. |

The "new" Marriott P+C chart has ZERO value. i.e. you pay more to save points than simply buying Starpoints today. (well, up until 20 July)
Of course, we might not be able to buy Marriott points cheaply going forward. So P+C might make some sense for the points-poor. No fifth night free either... https://insideflyer.co.uk/2018/06/is...hart-any-good/ |
We still don't know the launch date - it is highly unlikely to be 8/1 at this point. All we have to go on is sometime 'in August', until Marriott puts us out of our misery by giving us an actual date to go on.
I'd say sometime in the middle of the month if I were a betting man, but then I'd also expect Marriott to announce this within the next 72 hours or so. |

Does it really matter? It is hardly ever available now.
Best IMO has been 6k + $110 for Cat 5s that run 16K points high season |

Agree to disagree - while i mostly always find it available, it's the value that is no longer what it used to be pre-increase a few years ago

I agree, as I regularly see it available but it does not hold value for me.

Hi -
UA-NYC, my thoughts exactly. I have some stays coming up where it makes a lot more sense than either paying cash or redeeming points for the stay. It sounds like I need to get the reservations done before August 18, though. Once the multiplier goes in and the programs merge, the SPG award chart (with C+P) will be gone. |

Hi William -
Many thanks for the new (post 8/18) C+P chart. Basically, the co-pay has approximately doubled, making it a problematic option at best. Methinks it is time to burn my starpoints .... |

The Cash & Points award chart can be found here. Availability will be similar to today; Participation varies by hotel.
Best regards, William R. Sanders Social Media Specialist Marriott International [email protected] I concur most are better off with all points redemption. |
C&P was a bargain several years ago at SPG. The tiers were then realigned to make it a bit of a wash on average - a good deal when rates were high (and C&P available) and not so much at other times. I used them extensively when first introduced, but not much in the last few years.
This update makes another significant negative impact to the value of C&P. The "cost", valuing a Marriott point at 0.7 cents, has gone up an average of 16.6%. It's worst on the lower tiered properties. Old SPG Cat 1 - from $30 and 4500 MR points (1500*3) to $55 and 3500 points for 61 properties and up to $65 and 6000MR for 54 properties that went up to Cat 2 - up 49%. Accounting for category changes, and weighted by number of properties - SPG only. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...4850292002.jpg Ouch. |

C+P has been a poor option for years. You have an excellent chance of finding BRG/LNF claim for less than the cash portion of C+P, making it slightly less attractive in my opinion, I can cite several examples... Typically if C+P rooms are available they are also getting rid of excess capacity on third party sites. |
