In some cases, the opposite has happened.

Especially during the recession, when corporate entities and government agencies needed to avoid the appearance of waste, stays and meetings at "resorts" sent the wrong the message. So some properties removed "Resort" from their names.

For example, the hotel that's now called Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld used to be called Renaissance Resort Orlando at SeaWorld. The hotel removed "Resort" from its name, but it's still classified as a resort on Marriott.com.

This reminds me of the mainland Chinese hotels going down in category so that government officials can stay.

I just contacted a Sheraton that is a resort. Their response was that Platinum guests WILL NO LONGER have lounge access after August 1, breakfast will be a choice or 1000 points welcome gift (although at this particular property they will continue to offer breakfast to Plats). Not clear who will have lounge access (purchased or ?suites, altho at the moment I don't see it listed as a benefit for suites)

Sad to see another reason to go another route than staying with y previously favorite hotels.

This is in conflict with what the Starwood Lurker initially posted:
A12. Will SPG Platinum members still have lounge access at Sheraton/Le Meridien/Westin Resorts properties that have a lounge?Members will continue to enjoy lounge access as they do today at Westin, Sheraton, and Le Meridien resorts. <added by Starwood Lurker 19Apr18>

As such:
1) Could the Lurkers clarify the seeming discrepancy?
2) Could the Lurker provide a list of properties that are considered RESORTS?

Why not share the name of the Sheraton that is a resort?

Are they now claiming to be a resort so that they can charge a resort fee? Just what resort facilities do they pretend to have?

My bad - I quickly read an earlier post, and thought it said that JW Marriott properties don't have lounges, missing the end part about resorts not having them. Although it wouldn't surprise me for an SFO property to try to market itself as a resort

Or my new favorite, the "Destination Fee". Ugh.

AC Las Vegas has a lounge.

Do you mean the Cosmopolitan, which is an Autograph Collection hotel? I don't think there is an AC in LV.

I didn't think the Cosmo had a CL. Maybe I'm wrong, but the only Marriott I thought had a CL was the Ren.

I did not think it had a CL either, but it has been years since I stayed there and thought maybe it changed. Casino hotels usually would not have a CL because they want everyone to have to constantly pass the casino and play. Nor do I think it is a resort. There is no AC LV but the paragraph the poster quoted included Autograph Hotels. Bottom line, I asked for clarification because it is confusing.

I never saw, or was told about, a lounge at the Cosmo. There may be some "high roller/whale" facility, but I don't recall anything aligned with the MR Elite program.

David Flueck, Senior Vice President, Global Loyalty at Marriott International, ruined the once preeminent Starwood Preferred Guest Program (where he came from), and Marriott Rewards. My bet is that Flueck will get a huge (financial) bonus for dramatically scaling back the benefits and richness of the once Starwood Preferred Guest and Marriott Rewards programs (leading to cost savings for Marriott International and Marriott branded hotel owners.

With all due respect, Mr. Flueck, please don't take me to be an idiot, and think that I'll accept your rhetoric on face value.
