Status for 2018

So I got an email from SPG regarding to the timeline for program update, it says "As an SPG member, you can still count stays at SPG-associated brands to achieve Elite status through the end of 2018. Starting January 2019, only nights will count toward Elite status. And remember, you can qualify for Lifetime Elite status via the existing criteria through December 31, 2018." Does that mean I can still take my time to hit 25 stays by end of 2018 to qualify Platinum next year or I need to qualify 25 stays by the time new program takes effect in August? If my Platinum status is based on stays, can I stay Marriott brands after August and still count my stays towards to Platinum? I have spent few nights with Marriott properties so far this year, can I use those "STAYS" count towards to my Platinum this year when the program combined in August?

Hi yxc94550,
You may find the answer in below FAQ.

How will my stays with Rewards and SPG be counted toward my Elite status starting in August?
In August, we’ll notify you when you can combine your accounts. We’ll combine your Rewards and SPG Elite Night Credits from this year and count them toward a singular Elite status recognized equally across all hotels. Elite tiers will be achieved through qualifying nights. However, throughout 2018 we will continue to honor Elite achievement via stays at SPG hotels that occur in 2018 . Learn more about Elite status qualification and benefits at our Member Benefits page.

Best Regards,

So just wonder, if I have requalify as Platinum with 25 stays, is there any reason to clock 50 nights?

I am at 40 nights, and wonder if I should push to 50 nights as I Guess there is no more SPG50 gifts this year right?

At 50 nights, you get SNAs.

I thought both 25 stays and 50 nights will be mapped into Platium Elite in new program?

Frankly, I didn't get any successful SNA request since 2017... Don't think that will be useful at all after the merger (as lots of stuff is already going to the bad side already)

Yes if the stays are all SPG.

However, Plat doesn't get SNAs in the new program (and PlatMinus at 25 SPG stays doesn't get SNAs in the legacy SPG program either). You only start to earn SNAs at 50 nights (in both legacy SPG and the new combined Starriott program, legacy MR has no equivalent of SNAs).

I got more confuse now. This is what I saw in the new program

Annual Choice Benefit (5 Suite Night AwardsTM or Gift Option)
*Awarded with 50 qualifying nights
I guess the one I highlighted in bold only relevant for 2018. So it is correct that Platinum 25 stays will not get SNA/Gift Option just like current SPG.

From 2019 onward, the only way to get Plat is through 50 nights hence that bold text is no longer relevant.

Does it mean that 50 nights have to be solely SPG legacy or can be combined SPG + MR?

The 50 nights for five SNAs in the new combined Starriott program can be SPG, MR or both.

If someone is comped Plat, they won't get any SNAs until he/she stays 50 nights. The qualification still matters after this year.

OK. So there is still benefit to hit 50 nights even I have already SPG Plat requalify for 2019 through 25 stays, which is that 5SNA/Gift option.

I believe for my case, the additional 10 nights (I am at 40 nights now) can be a mix of SPG and MR?

If your 40 nights are all SPG properties, do the next 10 at only SPG properties for the 10 SNA's. The combined program and 50 night PLT elite status level only rewards you with 5 SNA's, so a combination of Marriott and SPG to make 50 nights would only get you the 5 SNA's.

ahhh ok rbAA, thanks for the highlight. So in short, if I get 50 nights in SPG legacy, the old rule still the same, i.e. 10 SNA or whatever the choices. If I get 50 nights in combine SPG + MR, the new rule will apply, so I will only get 5 SNA or the "new" gift option.

I was told the new SNA is subject to avail. I am not so familiar with the old SPG SNA, is there any different on that 5 new SNA and 10 old SNA.

SNA's are always subject to availability, so no real change.
