EmiratesNBD SPG MasterCard points changes?
I was just wondering if anyone has any clarity what this merger means for us that have the EmiratesNBD SPG card? Looking at the information out now I will get 6x at participating SPG, Marriott Rewards and The Ritz-Carlton Rewards hotels and 3x for each US dollar spent on other items. I'm not sure how that compares with the current setup where I get 5x spent on SPG and 1x for every US dollar? Basically I'm only using the card to transfer it to airline miles, Skywards but now I'm not sure if the card has that much value compared to before?
I think I need 3 points for every mile, and I don't know if my maths is right, but does that mean I should be getting 15x at participating SPG (instead of only 6x) in order to have the equivalent 1 point for 1 mile transfer as before?

You don't get 5 points directly from ENBD when spending at SPG, it is quite misleading.
The 5 points comprises:
2 points you get as base member at SPG
1 bonus point you get as SPG Gold
2 points per USD you get from ENBD
That's how they calculate 5 points. So ENBD itself is only giving 2 points per USD at SPG hotels, which means 6 points after the changes is correct.

Thanks for the clarification. So that means that after the changes happen in August we will get 6 points for every 1 USD spent? But if it now costs 3 points for every 1 mile to transfer to Skywards then we are worse off, or is that not correct?

Now you get 2 points per 1 USD, in future you will get 6 points per 1 USD.
Right now for 2 points you get 2 miles, in future you will need 6 points for 2 miles.
Nothing will change, they just multiplied all values by 3.

Ah okay, I think I understand now. They will just multiply the ENBD contribution by 3 (Old: 2 points per $1 New: 6 points per $1).
So under the new scheme I would get 2+1+6 = 9 points - > 3 miles ?
Under the old scheme I would get 2+1+2 = 5 points -> 5 miles ?
I haven't used this card before so I'm still trying to figure out how it works.

Under the new scheme, what you get depends on your tier, but assuming that you're a Gold:
10 points per dollar for Base
2.5 points per dollar for Gold
6 points per dollar from ENBD
18.5 points = 6 miles.

Thanks stargold! Yes I'm gold because of the card.
Interesting that they actually made the card better than before - I was afraid we would be worse off like the AMEX SPG card. I assume the points you mention is for purchases on SPG hotels and Marriott or only SPG?

I believe the double points is for both SPG and Marriott. I recall receiving an email at some point.
