Minimum number of Starpoints needed when transferring Starpoints to airline FFPs

Hi all,

I'm trying to make sense of SPG transferring rule.
On SPG website, it states "There is no minimum Starpoint transfer requirement for Platinum Preferred Guests, except where transfer ratios are not 1:1.4 Gold Preferred Guests have a minimum transfer requirement of 1,500 Starpoints, and Preferred Guests have a minimum transfer requirement of 2,500 Starpoints."

If I have 10,000 points to transfer to an airline FFP. this means I have to do it in the increments of 1500 starpoints at each transfer right. So what's left of this 10,000 point transfer is 1000 starpoints. and then what does it mean? I can't transfer the left over 1000 points to the airline FFP because I don't have enough? and I have to add another 500 starpoints so that I can transfer the whole 1500 points out?

Hi arandomflyer,

The rule just states that Gold Preferred Guests have a minimum transfer requirement of 1,500 Starpoints. The transfer amount does not need to be a multiple of 1,500 Starpoints.

I guess one thing about the merger is the "minimum" will be a lot higher (especially for SPG Platinum members whose minimum is about 1 right now), not discounted by status and have to go by increments: https://www.marriott.com/rewards/usepoints/morerew.mi

Is the SPG -> Airline transfer good until 8/17 or it will be cut off earlier than that?

Thanks.

I believe that link is to the current Marriott Reward program. The new program will be different:

REDEEM FOR FLIGHTS.
Transfer points to more than 40 airlines, including United, Delta, Emirates, Lufthansa, China Eastern and more. The transfer ratio will be 3 points for one mile.

Transfer as few as 3,000 points and up to 240,000 points per day — and any amount in between.

As a bonus, we’ll add 15,000 points for every 60,000 points you transfer to airline miles, for a total of 25,000 miles in the airline program of your choice.
Use points for airport lounge access and TSA PreCheck enrollment.
