Room booked: regular room
Room received: excelsior room
Award stay: yes

Comments: One night used Your24 after TATL flight so even the minimal upgrade was great; the second was offered a suite that was on a lower floor and took the Excelsior room instead on a higher floor.

Property: Westin Vendome Paris
Date(s): May 2018 3 nights
Room booked: Regular room
Room received: Junior Suite Eiffel Tower view
Award stay: No
BRG stay: No
SNAs redeemed: Yes
Comments: As noted in the SNA thread, an odd occurrence that worked out wonderfully. I applied the SNAs and got a confirmation note on the first try (T-5) but nothing changed on my reservation (and I was travelling a lot so did not really have time to check). Got to the hotel and was told about a not so hot room and I noted that I had gotten approval for the SNAs. After a bit of discussion I was asked to forward the SNA email to the hotel and two minutes later I was offered my choice of Ambassador Suite or Junior Suite with Eiffel Tower view and happily chose the latter. A wonderful stay and all the better that my travelling companion was able to sit on the balcony and enjoy the view.

Question: are people seeing upgrades on app/online prior to arrival still? Or they have the changed the it system to avoid this?

guaranteed 4 pm late checkout means exactly that. Unless they are a convention center or resort hotel (this hotel isn't) you should have pushed back.

When guests take the erosion of benefits like this using the hotel's BS justification (who cares about the Sakura blossoms for a late checkout? They'll have to just manage their inventory better) it allows the hotel to do it to other guests in the future.

The Sheraton Miyako Tokyo (same chain/group as this Westin) is notoriously stingy with upgrades and late checkouts, again selectively applying the SPG Program. I've voted with my wallet but non compliant properties like the Miyakos should be given a warning then kicked out of the program.

Comments: Huge Suite. The hotel was running full occupancy and my requested check out time was 1200pm I guess that's why the upgrade.

Well, not much I could do there. The entire hotel is full so I am likely going to get the original room if I don't budge (and they can upgrade someone else). I just went to Ritz earlier the next day.

Besides that I find this hotel quite accommodating.

Comments: I'm now five for five at this property since last fall (though one was the executive suite, which is not nearly so nice as the Corner Suite). Corner Suite has fantastic runway views.

On a roll this weekend, just got upgraded to Executive Suite at the RC Los Angeles. On a points stay no less.
