Cancellation policy on Awards
So I booked a 5 night award stay, applied and got suite night award confirmed and then realized on the day of checkin that I had booked the wrong property.
Property booked - ITC Maratha Mumbai
Property intended to book - ITC Grand Central Mumbai (previously called ITC Maratha Grand Central).
I arrive at the property I intended to book at 11:45pm and the front desk says they can’t transfer the reservation even though it’s a sister property and this happens frequently. They can’t transfer because it’s booked on points. So I call SPG and book a new and cancel the existing reservation. I am told that the hotel will charge for 1 night. Fine. But the hotel is charging me the cost of the suite for 1 night???
What are my options. When I called the hotel they said they are willing to let it go without any penalty but SPG will charge. SPG platinum desk says that it’s upto the hotel.
I don’t wish to pay for 1 night @ suite rate (approx $600) but would be ok to pay 1 night points (7000) or even cash rate (approx $200).
Lurkers - I did forward this to you to see if you can help.
