I concur with regards to both to LM Bangkok, LRM Plaza Athénée (now reflagged to LC), LM Khao Lak (now deflagged), LM Chiang Mai, LM Chiang Rai, LM Vienna, LM Angkor.
I've also had memorable stays at LM Chongqing, Le Parker Méridien NYC, LM Cyberport Hong Kong and LM Nice.

I've had great experiences with Le Méridien Taipei. It's one of my favourite Starwood properties. New, clean and spotless (I've even seen the cleaning staff ensuring fingerprint smudges are removed from the toilet), service is excellent, club lounge a bit small but the staff is great, platinum recognition and complimentary suite upgrades on point. Before we arrive, my platinum complimentary suite upgrade is already allocated to my parents' room which I very much appreciate.

Ok, I'll bite... I'm a little confused. Your thread is titled "Favorite Le Meridien property, worldwide" but then when one reads the text of your post it seems to be filled with phrases such as:
"...is even more dated and the location definitely does not look as good..."
"...the building is far from being spectacular. The clientele is probably not the best that you can hope for"
"used to be better...<snip> The staff is not what it used to be."
"there is not much use for this hotel."
"...is not spectacular, but nice enough"
"...is far from being the best hotel near Angkor Wat."
Forgive me, but is this really your list of "favorite Le Meridien's, worldwide?"
Regards

Le Meridien Bangkok was my favourite (I've stayed about 40 times) until Kuala Lumpur refurbished its rooms and Club Lounge and I have to say it offers the best combined suite upgrade and food/booze experience of any Le Meridien or indeed any other Starwood brand I've stayed at. I mean, you may get a better suite upgrade at a St Regis or the Sheraton Grande Macau but you won't get the food/booze you get in KL.
Angkor, Chiang Rai, KK are all reliable but unspectacular and KK is quite over-priced.

It's supposed to be an upscale chic and artsy brand. Think of it as W-level of upscale, but for the chic / connoisseur / worldly / creative crowd instead of the hip / party / be-seen / urban / modern crowd.
Within the SPG brand portfolio, W and LM appeal the most to me, along with LC. I like interesting boutique experiences (LC), and I like modern, fun, and creative experiences. I don't so much care for the old-world-money style of St. Regis.

My favorite is LRM Shanghai, especially since I've gotten upgrades to the corner suites with views of the Bund, Nanjing E. Rd. and People's Square the last several times.

I'm not so sure since a lot of the Ws have rates higher than LM. The W clientele certainly tend to be younger.

Now that I think about it I can't really think of any Le Meridien which I would wholeheartedly recommend. It's an interesting brand with potential, but most of the hotels seem somewhat lackluster in implementing it. Are there any must see's in the portfolio?
In Dubai I would highlight the Le Meridien Dubai for its exceptional value for money to Platinums. You get upgraded to the Royal Club which is essentially a separate hotel which would normally be priced at about twice the Le Meridien level.
I'm also going to call out Le Meridien Koh Samui. It's not the world's best hotel by any means, but the more secluded pool is interesting, the entrance is unique and I love the evening lantern ritual. After my first 3-4 visits there it began to feel properly magical. I've been to most of the other Thai Le Meridiens (except the ones in the North) and don't share the love that some others are showing for them. Le Meridien Bangkok's "Hot Sex Suite" upgrade for Platinums is kinda cool, but that's about it.

As my geographic focus is a little bit different, here's another list:
Great:
Good:
That's it. Fortunately I haven't been to any bad LMs so far.
Great:
- Le Méridien Grand Hotel Nürnberg - Located in an old building, near main station and therefore perfectly situated, good service, nice rooms with high floors, highly recommended.
- Le Royal Meridien Hamburg - You can't beat the location, especially having breakfast on the 9th floor overlooking the Aussenalster is just perfect in every way, also good service, nice interior
- Le Meridien Ra Beach Resort - Everyone wanting to see more from Catalonia than just Barcelona should head to this place, nice beach, great service, great interpretation of the Le Meridien brand with their intersections to the arts, highly recommended.
Good:
- Le Meridien Munich - Good hotel, perfectly situated near main station, but a little bit too touristy for my sense, still a decent hotel
- Le Meridien Barcelona - Probably the best location for tourists in Barcelona, it being directly on La Rambla, but I personally prefer the W or the 4P in Barcelona because they are a bit more quiet
- Le Meridien Versailles Montreal - Never shows up on any of the "Best starwood properties in Montreal list", which is a shame as it is well located and does many things right (service-wise and on the hard product)
That's it. Fortunately I haven't been to any bad LMs so far.

I don't typically seek out LeMs on leisure trips, but for some reason the LeM Kuala Lumpur, LeM Bangkok and the LRM Shanghai hit a real sweet spot for me for business trips, and have each become my go to hotel for business trips in their respective cities.
