SPG DOUBLE TAKE PROMOTION TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Registration: Starwood Preferred Guest® Members must register online at spg.com/doubletake by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time (ET), March 15, 2017. Registered members can earn bonus Starpoints® on eligible stays between January 16, 2017, and April 15, 2017 (the "Promotion Period"), at hotels and resorts in the SPG® program.

Earning: Registered members will earn double Starpoints at participating hotels and resorts on eligible stays of one or more nights for their first three stays within the earning period. Members who earn double Starpoints will earn an additional two (2) Starpoints per eligible US$1 spent (for a total of four [4] Starpoints per dollar). Elite-level extra Starpoints earnings and other bonuses will not be doubled. Only the base two-Starpoints-per-dollar earnings are doubled. After the third stay, registered members may be eligible to earn five thousand (5,000) bonus Starpoints after ten (10) nights, plus an additional five hundred (500) bonus Starpoints per additional night up to five thousand (5,000) Starpoints for a total of ten thousand (10,000) bonus Starpoints or twenty (20) nights. Offer is eligible with other Starpoints promotions; however, each offer will award bonus Starpoints independently of each other, and offers are not combinable.

Bonusing: The bonus Starpoints will post to the registered member's account within 2 to 4 weeks after the qualifying stay posts.

Eligible stays and nights: An eligible stay is defined as one or more consecutive nights paying an eligible rate in the same hotel, regardless of the number of check-ins or checkouts that occur, and posting to the member’s Starwood Preferred Guest account. An eligible night is defined as at least one night paying an eligible rate in the Promotion Period. An eligible rate is any rate that is eligible to earn Starpoints in the Starwood Preferred Guest program. A description of eligible stays and eligible rates can be found at spg.com under the program terms and conditions. See Section 2.1 for the complete definition of eligible rates. Note that certain prepaid room reservations — such as when the booking is made through a third party, including but not limited to travelocity.com, expedia.com, orbitz.com and delta.com — are not considered eligible rates and do not earn Starpoints or qualify for promotional earnings. Stays must be booked through any Starpoints-eligible channel, which includes a travel professional who books through those channels or the GDS. Stays will be processed for the promotion in the order they post to the Member’s account.

All promotions are subject to the Starwood Preferred Guest program terms and conditions, which are subject to change without notice and can be found at spg.com. Offer is applicable to individual members only and not to groups. Not responsible for omissions or typographical errors. SPG reserves the right to discontinue this offer at any time. Promotion FAQ

When can I register for the promotion?

SPG Members can register December 15, 2016, through 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time (ET), March 15, 2017.

What are the dates for earning bonus Starpoints®?

Each registered SPG Member can earn bonus Starpoints for eligible paid stays from January 16, 2017, through April 15, 2017.

Can anyone register for this promotion?

Any Member can register at spg.com/doubletake. A nonmember can join the SPG program and register simultaneously, also at spg.com/doubletake.

Will eligible stays or nights prior to registration count toward my earning?

Yes. As long as the Member registers by March 15, 2017, any eligible paid stays or nights from January 16, 2017, through April 15, 2017, will count toward earning.

How do I earn double Starpoints?

A registered member will earn double Starpoints on eligible stays of one or more nights for the first three stays within the earning period at any hotel or resort in the SPG program.

At which hotels and resorts am I eligible to earn double Starpoints?

A member can earn SPG Double Take Starpoints at any hotel or resort in the SPG program. This includes our more than 1,300 hotels and resorts across 11 distinctive brands worldwide — St. Regis®, Luxury Collection®, W®, Le Méridien®, Westin®, Sheraton®, Tribute Portfolio™, Design Hotels®, Aloft®, Element℠ and Four Points®.

What qualifies as an eligible paid stay for double Starpoints?

An eligible paid stay includes one or more nights, at any hotel or resort in the SPG program, paying a qualifying rate that earns Starpoints as defined by the terms and conditions of the SPG program (spg.com/t&c).

What qualifies as an eligible paid night for the SPG® Double Take bonus?

An eligible paid night includes at least one night paying a qualifying rate, at a hotel or resort in the SPG program, during the promotion period.

Can I book through a third party and earn bonus Starpoints?

Stays must be booked through any Starpoints-eligible channel, which includes a travel professional who books through those channels or the GDS. This is the only way to earn bonus Starpoints and get our best rates. Stays booked through prepaid, third-party channels — such as orbitz.com, expedia.com, travelocity.com, delta.com, etc. — are not eligible Rate Plans, so the Member will not earn bonus Starpoints and will not qualify for the offer. A description of a Starpoints-eligible channel can be found at spg.com under the program terms and conditions, section 2.1.

How many Starpoints do I earn with double Starpoints?

With double Starpoints, a member will earn 4 total Starpoints per eligible US$1 spent. Elite-level extra Starpoints earnings and other bonuses will not be doubled. Only the base 2 Starpoints-per-dollar earnings are doubled.

If part of my stay was reserved using a Free Night Award or Cash & Points, will my stay qualify?

No. Stays booked with Free Night Awards or Cash & Points do not count as qualifying stays for this promotion. Even if part of the stay is reserved using an Award and part is paid, the member will not receive bonus Starpoints for any part of the stay.

If I check in before the promotion period begins or check out after the promotion period ends, but some of my stay is during the promotion period, does my stay earn the bonus?

Yes. As long as one night of the eligible stay is within the promotion period, bonus Starpoints will be earned (even if part of the stay falls outside the promotion period). Stays will be processed for the promotion in the order they post to the member’s account.

When will double Starpoints post to my account?

Double Starpoints will post to the registered member's account within two to four weeks of each eligible paid stay posting. Please note that stays will be processed for the promotion in the order they post to the member’s account and not all bonuses will post at the same time.

Will I earn stay and night credits toward elite status?

A member will earn stay and night credits as he or she normally does while earning Starpoints.

Can I take advantage of other bonus promotions at the same time?

Yes. However, each promotion earns bonuses independently of each other.

You know, the scary thing is that in 2018 they might say now we are x% larger, we will just use the same promotion and increase the night requirements by x%

Since we can't cross-credit, maybe this is the way each side locks in its customers?

This promotion seems very poor. The earning potential is mediocre, and it's making people change their stay patterns in counterintuitive ways.

One of the first sign of the possible demise of SPG post-merger.

This promotion is really odd. Double points is a solid, but why only on the first 3 stays? After your 25 nights, after your first 3 stays, you end up coming out ahead... assuming under $300/night.

Seems like they're setting a cutoff for people at 3 stays. If you can't get to 20 nights from stay 4 onward, you get nada.

If Hyatt does their typical 25 nights / 75k points promo, they'll get all my business this quarter.

All are 'typical' business travellers : they travel some weeks, not all, and spend one or two, maybe three nights away in the weeks they do travel. None are certain they'll do 20 extra nights after their first 3 stays, can't justify additional business trips and don't want to end up with, say, 15 nights for which they get nothing.

For them this promo is very much a "stay 3 times and then take your business elsewhere".

Not a sparkling start for Marriott, then.
You do realise that this promo was meant to be as a hybrid between traditional SPG promos and the Marriott Mega Bonus, right? @:-)

If all 20 nights must be cash nights (rather than reward) there is no way I can make it...

It's definitely not that simple. For 2016, I had 13 nights, wife had zero, and we both got the 20-night version.

I have no insight into the intention, but If that's the case, they should have named the promo "Worst of Both Worlds".

Isn't that what they call "The World of Hyatt?"

Meh, as a 75 night member of both programs this year, I'll be shifting my business to Hyatt. Probably be more along the lines of 100 Hyatt/50 SPG next year.

Their new changes are pretty great for the top level of elites.

Newbie here (obvious by my post count) and just a leisure traveler. I've accumulated some Starwood points over the past few years and when planning a trip to SE Asia this February decided to go all in because Starwood had best fit with itinerary. I signed up for the Amex card, despite being aware of the looming acquisition.

I'm trying to figure out this promotion in relation to my Starwood bookings.

$100 1 night in IAD hotel.
$1000 4 nights prepaid through Starwood website in SGN.
3 nights on points in Hanoi
3 nights on points in Siem Reap
$400 2 nights in KUL
$1100 3 nights in HKG
$650 2 nights in SEL.

From the offer conditions it appears the points stays just disappear, even for the day count. If I understand the offer correctly, it seems I should cancel the IAD hotel and maximize the HKG bonus, correct?

I could also probably cancel KUL hotel and do on points but the points differential doesn't appear worth the effort. Also thought about going cash on the points hotels...which gets to the bonus. But, I don't know if going into the final program consolidation with a ton of points makes sense. We do have a later trip planned lin 2017 in a cheap points country (Poland).

I am relocating soon and planning to stay at a SPG property during my first weeks in my new city while looking for an apartment. The double points will begin partially through my stay, and I would probably get at least 20 nights after the promo begins. Like others have said it is too bad that the extra 10,000 points is only after 3 stays and an additional 20 nights.

Merry Christmas Lurkers!

When you get back, can you clarify this? The promo email says "...beginning with your 4th stay: achieve 20 nights and you'll earn 10,000 Starpoints".

It doesn't say stay another 20 nights, nor does it say achieve 20 nights more.

Yes it probably does mean the above sentence, but I'd like to have it officially clarified before I make my bookings for next year.

If it's already been answered, apologies. I started with Oxon Flyers post and didn't see any answers after that.

I am in the situation of a few others where this is encouraging me to cancel some
SPG reservations.

Right now, for Jan, I have booked:
3 nights in mid priced Shanghai hotel
2 nights in low cost Jakarta hotel
2 nights in expensive Singapore hotel
3 nights in low cost Bangkok hotel
3 nights in expensive Seoul hotel

It seems that to maximize my SPG bonus, I should cancel the Jakarta and Bangkok
stays, and book in some other chain.

Very strange " Incentive"

That sounds about right. You can always stay at the Marriott properties in either city, but I personally would not.
