SPG DOUBLE TAKE PROMOTION TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Registration: Starwood Preferred Guest® Members must register online at spg.com/doubletake by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time (ET), March 15, 2017. Registered members can earn bonus Starpoints® on eligible stays between January 16, 2017, and April 15, 2017 (the "Promotion Period"), at hotels and resorts in the SPG® program.

Earning: Registered members will earn double Starpoints at participating hotels and resorts on eligible stays of one or more nights for their first three stays within the earning period. Members who earn double Starpoints will earn an additional two (2) Starpoints per eligible US$1 spent (for a total of four [4] Starpoints per dollar). Elite-level extra Starpoints earnings and other bonuses will not be doubled. Only the base two-Starpoints-per-dollar earnings are doubled. After the third stay, registered members may be eligible to earn five thousand (5,000) bonus Starpoints after ten (10) nights, plus an additional five hundred (500) bonus Starpoints per additional night up to five thousand (5,000) Starpoints for a total of ten thousand (10,000) bonus Starpoints or twenty (20) nights. Offer is eligible with other Starpoints promotions; however, each offer will award bonus Starpoints independently of each other, and offers are not combinable.

Bonusing: The bonus Starpoints will post to the registered member's account within 2 to 4 weeks after the qualifying stay posts.

Eligible stays and nights: An eligible stay is defined as one or more consecutive nights paying an eligible rate in the same hotel, regardless of the number of check-ins or checkouts that occur, and posting to the member’s Starwood Preferred Guest account. An eligible night is defined as at least one night paying an eligible rate in the Promotion Period. An eligible rate is any rate that is eligible to earn Starpoints in the Starwood Preferred Guest program. A description of eligible stays and eligible rates can be found at spg.com under the program terms and conditions. See Section 2.1 for the complete definition of eligible rates. Note that certain prepaid room reservations — such as when the booking is made through a third party, including but not limited to travelocity.com, expedia.com, orbitz.com and delta.com — are not considered eligible rates and do not earn Starpoints or qualify for promotional earnings. Stays must be booked through any Starpoints-eligible channel, which includes a travel professional who books through those channels or the GDS. Stays will be processed for the promotion in the order they post to the Member’s account.

All promotions are subject to the Starwood Preferred Guest program terms and conditions, which are subject to change without notice and can be found at spg.com. Offer is applicable to individual members only and not to groups. Not responsible for omissions or typographical errors. SPG reserves the right to discontinue this offer at any time. Promotion FAQ

When can I register for the promotion?

SPG Members can register December 15, 2016, through 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time (ET), March 15, 2017.

What are the dates for earning bonus Starpoints®?

Each registered SPG Member can earn bonus Starpoints for eligible paid stays from January 16, 2017, through April 15, 2017.

Can anyone register for this promotion?

Any Member can register at spg.com/doubletake. A nonmember can join the SPG program and register simultaneously, also at spg.com/doubletake.

Will eligible stays or nights prior to registration count toward my earning?

Yes. As long as the Member registers by March 15, 2017, any eligible paid stays or nights from January 16, 2017, through April 15, 2017, will count toward earning.

How do I earn double Starpoints?

A registered member will earn double Starpoints on eligible stays of one or more nights for the first three stays within the earning period at any hotel or resort in the SPG program.

At which hotels and resorts am I eligible to earn double Starpoints?

A member can earn SPG Double Take Starpoints at any hotel or resort in the SPG program. This includes our more than 1,300 hotels and resorts across 11 distinctive brands worldwide — St. Regis®, Luxury Collection®, W®, Le Méridien®, Westin®, Sheraton®, Tribute Portfolio™, Design Hotels®, Aloft®, Element℠ and Four Points®.

What qualifies as an eligible paid stay for double Starpoints?

An eligible paid stay includes one or more nights, at any hotel or resort in the SPG program, paying a qualifying rate that earns Starpoints as defined by the terms and conditions of the SPG program (spg.com/t&c).

What qualifies as an eligible paid night for the SPG® Double Take bonus?

An eligible paid night includes at least one night paying a qualifying rate, at a hotel or resort in the SPG program, during the promotion period.

Can I book through a third party and earn bonus Starpoints?

Stays must be booked through any Starpoints-eligible channel, which includes a travel professional who books through those channels or the GDS. This is the only way to earn bonus Starpoints and get our best rates. Stays booked through prepaid, third-party channels — such as orbitz.com, expedia.com, travelocity.com, delta.com, etc. — are not eligible Rate Plans, so the Member will not earn bonus Starpoints and will not qualify for the offer. A description of a Starpoints-eligible channel can be found at spg.com under the program terms and conditions, section 2.1.

How many Starpoints do I earn with double Starpoints?

With double Starpoints, a member will earn 4 total Starpoints per eligible US$1 spent. Elite-level extra Starpoints earnings and other bonuses will not be doubled. Only the base 2 Starpoints-per-dollar earnings are doubled.

If part of my stay was reserved using a Free Night Award or Cash & Points, will my stay qualify?

No. Stays booked with Free Night Awards or Cash & Points do not count as qualifying stays for this promotion. Even if part of the stay is reserved using an Award and part is paid, the member will not receive bonus Starpoints for any part of the stay.

If I check in before the promotion period begins or check out after the promotion period ends, but some of my stay is during the promotion period, does my stay earn the bonus?

Yes. As long as one night of the eligible stay is within the promotion period, bonus Starpoints will be earned (even if part of the stay falls outside the promotion period). Stays will be processed for the promotion in the order they post to the member’s account.

When will double Starpoints post to my account?

Double Starpoints will post to the registered member's account within two to four weeks of each eligible paid stay posting. Please note that stays will be processed for the promotion in the order they post to the member’s account and not all bonuses will post at the same time.

Will I earn stay and night credits toward elite status?

A member will earn stay and night credits as he or she normally does while earning Starpoints.

Can I take advantage of other bonus promotions at the same time?

Yes. However, each promotion earns bonuses independently of each other.

For once, it's nice that all properties are included. I missed out on a triple point opportunity on the last fall promo due to an "excluded" hotel (W Union Square).

However, it's really hard to figure out when the 10 additional stays start as even the terms and conditions don't speak about the second part of the promotion (probably due to the customization).

I have to say I find this promo very odd, it may work for some people but seems like it will have no affect or even reduce nights for others. If people know they wont hit 20 nights after the first 3 stays they could just switch to another brand.

In my case however I will actually stay less than I would have in January to save the double points part for a longer and expensive stay I have in late February. I will still no doubt hit the 20 nights part after that but makes no sense for me now to stay with SPG in January and miss having the double points applied to my more costly stays!

Not sure this has been thought through that well!

There's no possible way a promo will work for everyone. That's life. Take it or leave it.
I've never seen anyone cry devaluation when a promo for a programme (that's being dismantled) gave too many points.

Find any hotel room or even a park bench on Jan 15th and split your stay so you can get double points on a 2 week stay at least.

i think this promo is really counterproductive. i have a late march family ski trip that, by my estimate, would net me an extra 20/25k points under the first leg of this promo.

because of that, i just cancelled a stay i had booked for february (just to make sure my ski trip stays are the 2nd and 3rd stays of the year) and won't be booking any other stays with starwood until april.

in my personal case, this promo will be costing starwood some lost business.

Am I the only one thinking it's a little weird that SPG & Marriott have announced a Q1 2017 promo, but still haven't clarified what's happening to SPG & Marriott Rewards for 2018?

Kicking-the-can and saying the programs now won't merge until at least 2019 would be a welcome step. If they're really planning to merge programs for 2018 though, don't they owe us an explanation about how a merged 2018 program (as well as night/stay requirements for elite tiers) will work before 2017 starts?

As with other large company mergers, it's going to take time to formulate a plan, test it, market it then execute. This doesn't include the current partners to each program and what roles, if any, they will in a possible new program.

While my esteemed colleague is correct that a lot depends upon how a hotel may credit a stay, officially - a 2-consecutive night stay at the same hotel is 1 stay not 2 stays and check ins and checkouts during same stay are not supportable within hotel policy and are against the promotion terms and conditions.

I'm not sure what is possible or not in this specific instance, but perhaps there is another nearby SPG-participating property? If so, one stay could be booked at one and the other, which would legitimately be considered 2 stays.

I get that, but don't you think Marriott owes it to both SPG & MR members to let them know by 1/1/2017 what the earning, elite tiers & benefits and redemption options will look like in 2018? We should know whether tiers will change or if there are major changes to benefits for the following year, before asking for our $ in 2017. At least that's my two cents...

Not to derail the topic, probably better to continue in the merge thread, but NO. We don't even know if the plan will change in 2018, on that, that it is the earliest possibility of a change.

A couple of rookie questions:

1) I have a stay where I am departing January 16. Does that count?

2) I have booked 2 rooms on separate reservations at the same hotel. Is that 1 stay or 2? Would that change if I booked the 2 rooms on 1 reservation?

So, for an SPG Gold member, using the SPG Amex card, how many points am I getting?

Well, this promo hasn't goes down at all well with the project team ("Which Marriott marketing muppet thought this one up then ....?")

All are 'typical' business travellers : they travel some weeks, not all, and spend one or two, maybe three nights away in the weeks they do travel. None are certain they'll do 20 extra nights after their first 3 stays, can't justify additional business trips and don't want to end up with, say, 15 nights for which they get nothing.

For them this promo is very much a "stay 3 times and then take your business elsewhere".

Not a sparkling start for Marriott, then.
