SPG DOUBLE TAKE PROMOTION TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Registration: Starwood Preferred Guest® Members must register online at spg.com/doubletake by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time (ET), March 15, 2017. Registered members can earn bonus Starpoints® on eligible stays between January 16, 2017, and April 15, 2017 (the "Promotion Period"), at hotels and resorts in the SPG® program.

Earning: Registered members will earn double Starpoints at participating hotels and resorts on eligible stays of one or more nights for their first three stays within the earning period. Members who earn double Starpoints will earn an additional two (2) Starpoints per eligible US$1 spent (for a total of four [4] Starpoints per dollar). Elite-level extra Starpoints earnings and other bonuses will not be doubled. Only the base two-Starpoints-per-dollar earnings are doubled. After the third stay, registered members may be eligible to earn five thousand (5,000) bonus Starpoints after ten (10) nights, plus an additional five hundred (500) bonus Starpoints per additional night up to five thousand (5,000) Starpoints for a total of ten thousand (10,000) bonus Starpoints or twenty (20) nights. Offer is eligible with other Starpoints promotions; however, each offer will award bonus Starpoints independently of each other, and offers are not combinable.

Bonusing: The bonus Starpoints will post to the registered member's account within 2 to 4 weeks after the qualifying stay posts.

Eligible stays and nights: An eligible stay is defined as one or more consecutive nights paying an eligible rate in the same hotel, regardless of the number of check-ins or checkouts that occur, and posting to the member’s Starwood Preferred Guest account. An eligible night is defined as at least one night paying an eligible rate in the Promotion Period. An eligible rate is any rate that is eligible to earn Starpoints in the Starwood Preferred Guest program. A description of eligible stays and eligible rates can be found at spg.com under the program terms and conditions. See Section 2.1 for the complete definition of eligible rates. Note that certain prepaid room reservations — such as when the booking is made through a third party, including but not limited to travelocity.com, expedia.com, orbitz.com and delta.com — are not considered eligible rates and do not earn Starpoints or qualify for promotional earnings. Stays must be booked through any Starpoints-eligible channel, which includes a travel professional who books through those channels or the GDS. Stays will be processed for the promotion in the order they post to the Member’s account.

All promotions are subject to the Starwood Preferred Guest program terms and conditions, which are subject to change without notice and can be found at spg.com. Offer is applicable to individual members only and not to groups. Not responsible for omissions or typographical errors. SPG reserves the right to discontinue this offer at any time. Promotion FAQ

When can I register for the promotion?

SPG Members can register December 15, 2016, through 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time (ET), March 15, 2017.

What are the dates for earning bonus Starpoints®?

Each registered SPG Member can earn bonus Starpoints for eligible paid stays from January 16, 2017, through April 15, 2017.

Can anyone register for this promotion?

Any Member can register at spg.com/doubletake. A nonmember can join the SPG program and register simultaneously, also at spg.com/doubletake.

Will eligible stays or nights prior to registration count toward my earning?

Yes. As long as the Member registers by March 15, 2017, any eligible paid stays or nights from January 16, 2017, through April 15, 2017, will count toward earning.

How do I earn double Starpoints?

A registered member will earn double Starpoints on eligible stays of one or more nights for the first three stays within the earning period at any hotel or resort in the SPG program.

At which hotels and resorts am I eligible to earn double Starpoints?

A member can earn SPG Double Take Starpoints at any hotel or resort in the SPG program. This includes our more than 1,300 hotels and resorts across 11 distinctive brands worldwide — St. Regis®, Luxury Collection®, W®, Le Méridien®, Westin®, Sheraton®, Tribute Portfolio™, Design Hotels®, Aloft®, Element℠ and Four Points®.

What qualifies as an eligible paid stay for double Starpoints?

An eligible paid stay includes one or more nights, at any hotel or resort in the SPG program, paying a qualifying rate that earns Starpoints as defined by the terms and conditions of the SPG program (spg.com/t&c).

What qualifies as an eligible paid night for the SPG® Double Take bonus?

An eligible paid night includes at least one night paying a qualifying rate, at a hotel or resort in the SPG program, during the promotion period.

Can I book through a third party and earn bonus Starpoints?

Stays must be booked through any Starpoints-eligible channel, which includes a travel professional who books through those channels or the GDS. This is the only way to earn bonus Starpoints and get our best rates. Stays booked through prepaid, third-party channels — such as orbitz.com, expedia.com, travelocity.com, delta.com, etc. — are not eligible Rate Plans, so the Member will not earn bonus Starpoints and will not qualify for the offer. A description of a Starpoints-eligible channel can be found at spg.com under the program terms and conditions, section 2.1.

How many Starpoints do I earn with double Starpoints?

With double Starpoints, a member will earn 4 total Starpoints per eligible US$1 spent. Elite-level extra Starpoints earnings and other bonuses will not be doubled. Only the base 2 Starpoints-per-dollar earnings are doubled.

If part of my stay was reserved using a Free Night Award or Cash & Points, will my stay qualify?

No. Stays booked with Free Night Awards or Cash & Points do not count as qualifying stays for this promotion. Even if part of the stay is reserved using an Award and part is paid, the member will not receive bonus Starpoints for any part of the stay.

If I check in before the promotion period begins or check out after the promotion period ends, but some of my stay is during the promotion period, does my stay earn the bonus?

Yes. As long as one night of the eligible stay is within the promotion period, bonus Starpoints will be earned (even if part of the stay falls outside the promotion period). Stays will be processed for the promotion in the order they post to the member’s account.

When will double Starpoints post to my account?

Double Starpoints will post to the registered member's account within two to four weeks of each eligible paid stay posting. Please note that stays will be processed for the promotion in the order they post to the member’s account and not all bonuses will post at the same time.

Will I earn stay and night credits toward elite status?

A member will earn stay and night credits as he or she normally does while earning Starpoints.

Can I take advantage of other bonus promotions at the same time?

Yes. However, each promotion earns bonuses independently of each other.

FWIW, as there seems to be a bug in the system which may also have implications for how the nights from stays 4 and onwards are accounted for, I'd be happy to wait for this to be investigated and properly fixed rather than just have a points adjustment. If a fix-sweep has to be run to give everyone their 'stay 2' credit and take out the 'stay 4' credit, there's a chance your correction may be changed again.

Just bumping this in case anyone could help figure out if my math is correct. Thanks.

Next month I'll have about a 20-night stay at a hotel that will run me about $125/night. I might have three stays before then. So is my math right:

1. If I do have three stays before my 20-night stay, the calculation will be as follows:

3 pts/night as Gold + 2 pts/night paying with my SPG Amex = 5 pts/night
5 pts/night x $125/night x 20 nights = 12,500 pts
Plus 10,000 pt bonus, as per my fourth stay bonus offer
Total of 22,500 points

2. If I do not have three stays before my 20-night stay, the calculation will be: 7 pts/night (taking account of 2 extra promo points/night) x $125/night x 20 nights = Total of 17,500 points

I know it gets a bit more complicated in terms of figuring what I'd get for my stays before the 20-night stay, but is my above calculation correct?

Thanks for any help.

dear lurker,

if my check-in date was 15 APR, will this stay qualify for this promo?

Thank you

(I tried to find answer in the WIKI but didn't work, maybe due to my poor English.)

from the wiki :

between January 16, 2017, and April 15, 2017 (the "Promotion Period"),
If I check in before the promotion period begins or check out after the promotion period ends, but some of my stay is during the promotion period, does my stay earn the bonus?

Yes. As long as one night of the eligible stay is within the promotion period, bonus Starpoints will be earned (even if part of the stay falls outside the promotion period)
The night of 15 Apr is within the promotion period, so all of the nights of a stay checking in on 15 Apr will qualify for this promo.

Double Double promotion on stays booked though 1/16

I had a recent stay from Jan 14th-17th. Would I qualify for double points for the whole stay or just that last night? It looks like I may have received the promotion for the last 2 nights only. Was that very generous or should I ask for all 3 nights?

I've merged your post into the main thread, and the post now immediately above yours should help answer what you are entitled to under the terms of the promo.

Thank you. It does but it doesn't. SpG told me the opposite!

My apologies, but whoever may have told you this was wrong. The terms cited in the wiki should provide proof of this.

Data point re: double double bonus and SPG accounting in general

I recently stayed 4 nights at the St Regis. The last night included the 16th, the first day of the promotion. I had booked my stay as one night but ended up extending each day for various reasons, and had 2 rooms on one night. . SPG considers consecutive nights as one booking. SPG credited the promotion to my account for the last 2 nights, not the 1st 2. When I spoke with SPG, the agent informed me I should receive the promotion on all nights but their hands are tied bc the St Regis submitted the nights separately. I did not receive elite credit for more than one stay. What a silly policy re: the hands are tied thing. Now I have to call the hotel and track down a manager and go through a whole process. Hopefully that even works, but since when does the hotel's methods override actual data. An example includes that only $900/night revenue posted when my bill was @$2k. SPG was able to correct that by calling the hotel on the other line, even though she was looking at an itemized folio already and knew the hotel submitted too low a number.

Now that I think about it, in the past 2 years, I have had to spend 1-3 hrs on the phone with SPG after every vacation just to get the proper points credited. The original number is consistently 50% short, which is a lot. My Hawaii trip was off by @30k points.

The Hawaii trip particularly irked me as they originally claimed the revenue was @2k when my bill was well over 10k. They made it right but I resent the time after every trip to have to have to do the whole phone call, email to research, etc. I'm just sending the folio. My reading of it should be the same as everyone else's- and it is, after 2 hours of time wasted. This has occurred at every property.

Your phone agents and supervisors do not know this. It took 4 calls, all escalated, and only on the 4th call did the agent agree with your interpretation, and I cited you and this forum, so he had no choice. Then they said the nights don't count as one stay, bc I extended daily. That would make sense if I received elite credit for 4 stays, actually 5 bc one night I had 2 rooms, but I didn't. It was counted as one stay. It made no sense but after 1:30 on the call, I had to go.

Sorry, I didn't see you replied to me. Thank you so much. I agree with you. I've kind of lost steam.

FWIW, to save you spending most of the rest of your existence on the phone to SPG if this happens again, the general advice here is that these sorts of problems are best sorted by an email to the SPG research address. If they're not able to resolve to your satisfaction, then you can escalate to the spgchampion email address, as detailed in the Lurkers signature.
