FAQ :
http://members.marriott.com/faq/#will-rewards-and-spg-be-turning-into-one-program

Will Rewards and SPG be turning into one program?
These are two of the best programs in the industry, and we want you to benefit from everything that makes SPG and Rewards great. We don’t anticipate that the two programs will come together before 2018, and we will keep you informed of any updates. In the meantime, there’s no change to how you book reservations, manage your accounts or earn Elite night credits, points and miles in the current programs

Status Matches
MR Platinum <--> SPG Platinum
MR Gold <--> SPG Gold
MR Silver <--> SPG Preferred Plus
MR Member <--> SPG Preferred

If your status changes (i.e. Gold->Plat) in one program, your status in the other program will be automatically upgraded within 24 hours per Marriott FAQ

You can now link your Marriott Rewards or Ritz-Carlton Rewards account with your SPG account.
To link your accounts, log in to either account at:
http://www.spg.com/linkmarriott
http://members.marriott.com/

It will be a 3:1 transfer ratio between MR-SPG

If I have Lifetime Status in one of the programs, will I also get it in the other program when I link my accounts?
This is the Official Answer : "We appreciate your loyalty! Lifetime Status is specific to the program that you earned it in. While linking accounts will not result in Lifetime Status in the other program, your Elite status will be matched to the same Elite tier in the other program. Any existing Lifetime Status you already hold within either program will still be enjoyed within that program. We’re working on more ways to recognize your loyalty and Lifetime Status as we work towards harmonizing the programs, which we don’t anticipate happening until 2018."

Transferring points from SPG to MR does NOT change lifetime MR points.

Transferring points from SPG to MR does NOT count as activity & therefore does not extend the expiration date of points.

SPG platinum member matched to MR plat and now interested in the MR - UA Silver status match ? Check here.

I had the same 'down for updates' message. The image I saw on the purple page was the 'standard' tri-program set where the central MR logo is more pronounced (same as the one at the bottom of this page), so IMHO this doesn't relate to anything new in particular.

Please excuse what might be a really stupid beginner question... where does one find email address for Marriott properties? I often email a starwood property in advance of my arrival.

Im staying at a Marriott soon and wanted to email questions but could not find an email address on the hotel property website. I also could not find an instant online customer service rep so I called the property directly.

I looked on TripAdvisor and some people said Marriott does not advertise email addresses for properties. Is that true? If so how does one book a hotel pick up and ask questions

sorry for what seems like such a beginner question but I just couldn't find an email address anywhere. Thanks

Apparently MR don't show emails. I did contact head office to request one which they gave me but said hotel never replied. Someone who always seems to be posting on the MR forum said I should call. Rather stupid as Marriott seem so US centred and don't realise that if travelling to Far East (am looking to travel to MULU in Sarawak) need to take into account time difference, language, I do speak 4 languages but Malay is not one of them. Needed to book excursions in the pArk and am finding it impossible. Don't want to travel to the ends of the earth to find nothing available. Also much better to correspond in writing. Will avoid Marriott mainly due to this. Just really dumb! Hope with merger they change this.

Thanks.

Insanely dumb they don't post up emails. I just called Marriott customer service in China and they told me I could call main customer service and they would give me the email or I could call the hotel directly and ask (talk about a waste of time and money). All to book a hotel limo pickup.

The Marriott rep told me Starwood was much smarter when it comes to digital aspects. I then asked if there was a plat phone number as I could only find US and Canada ones on website. He tried to find one and could not - he said the English site only has US and Canada plat numbers but the Chinese language site will have a plat number from r calling in China.

I also emailed customer service about finding online emails for hotels. They responded a couple of hours later that I never wrote which hotel. I responded saying I wanted to know how generally and not a specific hotel. 7 hours after my initial email I still have no answer.

Uktimately i I called the hotel directly, wasting money and time to give them my email. They emailed me back an hour later. I responded q query and they responded fairly soon after.

Responsive but not overly when I just wanted to book a hotel pick up and usually can do that quickly.

I have rarely stayed at Marriotts because I don't love Properties. When I stay it is usually someone else paying and booking or array in a city I k ow well and don't need extra help.

This was first time I tried to reach out to hotel and customer service - shocked at how difficult process is. Emails. Really?!

They also dont have online plat chat. I hope merger elevates Marriott tech. For now I'll try to stick more to starwood still. What a total time suck.

Maybe switch to sending a FAX? There are some email to fax services that you can sign up for and then give the property you email address. Some people have a tough time keeping up with technology.

I am MR Platinum Member and already requalified for Platinum last month. I staying at SPG properties.

While I know both programs remain separate today except that my Platinum status is recognized at SPG properties, I am lifetime Gold with MR (1842 nights and 1.9 million points). When both programs merge, will my stays (nights) and points in my SPG account count towards MR Lifetime status? Thanks!

... and that's the $64 Million question! No one knows what they will do to merge the programs. MPG may not look like anything we've seen before (for good or bad), they may pick the good from both programs (sorry MR), they may pick the worst of both programs (sorry SPG), or there will be some combination of both. All we can do right now is use the program that meets our needs today and hope they come up with something that keeps them competitive with the others. My hopes are high.

Thanks RogerD. I appreciate the reply. MR Platinum customer service # suggested I just continue to book Marriott properties. Hopefully, having recently experienced this with the US/AA merger, MR/SPG will employ the same approach and have the respective stays and points in either program count towards lifetime status. Once again, I appreciate the reply.

I'm starting to wonder whether the delay in combining the programs means that they're creating a totally new type of program. It also seems to me that the incessant emphasis on linking accounts could be a big data attempt to find out more about their frequent guests.

Mergers are not as easy as some may think. There are a lot of issues that need to be worked out, the least of which who's going to be doing what. Companies find sales will plummet if they pre-announce a new product/service with customers waiting for the bigger/better item. Employees also get rather anxious wonder if they will have a job in the new program. So I understand the secrecy and they have always targeted 2018 as the year to roll it out.

The merger seems to be progressing on the operational and marketing side. For example, I've seen ads promoting Four Points and Courtyard together as "Marriott" brands. They are obviously working together on the development side (signing new hotels). Given the links between the rewards programs, it's not really necessary to rush a combined program quite yet.

When you're trying to identify matches when trying to merge 2 huge, separate customer lists, the most accurate and efficient way is to get your customers to do it for you.
